Gambian accused of rape cleared of all charges

FreeOxford Mail - A MAN accused of raping a woman with learning difficulties in the centre of an Oxfordshire town has been cleared of all charges.
Musa Camara maintained his innocence throughout the four-day trial at Oxford Crown Court.
Yesterday, jurors took just 108 minutes to acquit the 22-year-old of rape, a serious sexual assault and sexual assault. Free
The 23-year-old woman who made the claims told the jury she was approached by Mr Camara in Witney High Street on June 30. Giving evidence, the woman said she tried to get away from the man by going to the nearby Marlborough Hotel but said she was followed by the defendant.
However, CCTV footage showed Mr Camara leading the way and the woman following, and later showed them holding hands as they strolled through the town before having sex on land close to the River Windrush off Witan Way.
Mr Camara, originally from Gambia and now of Burwell Drive, Witney, initially told police he had not been in the town that day, but later admitted having consensual sex with the woman after DNA evidence linked him to the scene.
Jurors also heard the woman, who cannot be named, had made a similar rape claim in June 2005, when she said she was attacked in Waitrose car park in the town.
A man was arrested and admitted having contact with the woman but denied having sex with her. He was released without charge.

We need to keep an open mind that is conscious of gender dynamics - rape is so hard to prove and whose word was believed in a court dominated by men, a legal system written by men, a media dominated by men. And women are often raped many times in their lives - often not even realizing that each time they have sex and they did not want it - it was thus coercive - it could be called rape. Sex is sacred and not to happen unless both partners want it be a shared experience. Justice is not found in courts of the British, only legal briefs and judgements

A good day for British justice.

Mr Camara's fears were understandable.

I am surprised that the CPS..even brought this allegation, bareing in mind the CCTV evidence. But then both parties had the right for the evidence to be heard and the impartial jury to make there decision.

I am pleased for Mr Camara. It sounds like quite an ordeal?
