Gambia qualifies to African Under 17 finals
Saturday, 20 November 2010 20:45
Gamsports - With just a few but significant changes to the team that salvaged a humble 2-3 defeat to Tunisia two weeks ago, Coach Lamin Sambou guided his African Champions,
the Baby Scorpions, to their consecutive continental finals, after 1-0 beating of Tunisia in Banjul Saturday. The Baby Scorpions started cautiously, but were given a flying start in the 5th minute when Demba Janneh lived up his Christiana Ronaldo Monika, to sent a free kick that
amused the already Tobaski-elevated crowd which included Vice President Isatou Njai Saidy.Janneh came close to doubling the score, five more minutes later but he arrived inches late to latch on to a splendid cross for a super finish.
Other efforts worthy of mention included moments of brilliance from Hamza Barry and Salom Faal.
Tunisia came close to punishing some unsettling behaviours of Keeper Baka, late in the first half but the Gambia managed to maintained the lead to the break.
There was not much to write home about in the second half except a gallery of changes and few Tunisian scares. Final score Gambia 1 Tunisia. The Gambia qualifies on away goal rule, from -a 3-3 goal aggregate. The finals takes place in January in Rwanda.
Last month, the Gambia also qualified for the African under -20 finals to be held in Libya.
