Gambia Olympic Com. Crisis Linked to US$100,000 Financial Scandal?

beatrice_allen_n_ousman_wadda-sJollofNews - Ms Beatrice Allen, Acting President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has made it clear that the decision to prosecute them might be linked to the thorough investigation they requested for the expenditure of US$100, 000.00 granted to the GNOC by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).beatrice_allen_n_ousman_wadda-s
This startling revelation “wikileaked” to Jollofnews is contained in an affidavit, filed on January 24, 2011 by Beatrice Allen, which was sent to the High Court of the Gambia. “On Wednesday last the 19 day of January 2011, there was a meeting of the GNOC management committee to review the expenditure US$100, 000.00 which had been granted to the GNOC by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) to prepare Gambian athletes for participation in the Delhi Games 2010.
The revelations of the accounts showed that these funds were mismanaged and a report was due to be sent to the CGF in respect of the mismanagement of this sum,” reads the affidavit.
Ms Allen stated that they also discussed during that meeting the imminent report which was to be issued with regard to that matter.
“I believe that the decision to prosecute us might be linked to these issues and those which have been shown in the letters exhibited to this affidavit. I believe that we are being victimized to prevent the elections and the report being sent,” she stated in the said affidavit.
Because of this horrific revelation, she spared no opportunity to reiterate their claim of innocence. “We are completely innocent of the charge brought against us,” she pointed out in an emphatic style.
Together with Ousman Wadda and Muhammed Janneh, respectively Treasurer and Accountant of the Gambia National Olympic CommitteeMagistrates’ Court. (GNOC), Beatrice Allen is standing trial before the Kanifing They are charged with one count of stealing.
The charge sheet indicates they stole 34, 000 Dalasis (about 1,000 Euros) being money which belonged to the Gambia National Olympics Committee. It was alleged that this was money which was paid to the former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Lang Tombong Tamba, who used to be the President of GNOC and who was not entitled to same. The alleged beneficiary of this amount of money was sentenced to death following an abortive coup attempt.
It could be recalled that Beatrice Allen, in an interview recently, told the Olympic news outlet, ATR, that their trial was politically motivated. She accused the ministers of Youth and Sports and Justice of being behind it.

The infighting has cut accross all Gambian lives- from the backyards of family homes right to the front officeS of public institutions. We recently heard about a seller in the Banjul market taking to court for simply discussion about Gambia/Senegal soured relationship. It turned out that the informant was engaged in a personal vendatta and used his political connection to implicate that vendor. It is because of these constant vengeance that our society has been so torned apart that people thinks that the NIAs are everyhwhere and helped to fan the atmostphere of fear and recrimination that is so characteristic of Jammeh's despotic rule. If the case file against the GNOC officials are yet to be completed why the matter is before the courts? Ms Allen's allegation that the Justice minister Edu Gomez is part of this infighting really holds water.

Mo you have said it all.... The keyword is 'INFIGHTING'! Seriously here is a reputable Gambian and her colleague, being dragged to court over frivolous charges. This has become routine in Gambia today. I wonder which Gambians are responsible for concocting these false accusations in a bid to 'bring down' hardworking Gambians.
Jammeh and a 'cohort' of 'selfish, mediocre Gambians', are using the Judiciary to TERRORIZE hard working citizens.
Anyone read observer today? So apparently There is an Indian guy in court for calling Gambians 'Lazy black monkeys' saw headline and thought that's bad...but then I read the article and it turns out the case was initiated by a remark the person made about Jammeh being stupid! So now anyone who insults Jammeh should be arrested and sent to court. Well the truth is He behaves stupidly most of the time. So beware if you don't report people critical of Jammeh you risk being arrested.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

When other African nations are fighting hard to be represented in reputable international bodies, Gambians are shamelessly fighting fellow Gambians for personal gains. The head of the IAAF is a Senegalese, a source of pride for all Africans. Instead of rallying behind Ms Allen to rise further within the IOC top echelon that will bring immense pride for all Gambians, individuals harboring hateful agendas that are inimical to the general development of sports in the Gambia have brought the infighting into the international fora. Their disdainful act of treaachery could make Gambia be banned from the IOC. What is the point of taking them to court for simply paying to Lang Tamba his entitlements as president of the GNOC? If we dont stop this shameful infighting, Gamnbians will end up being losers. The only person gaining from our divisiveness is Yaya Jammeh who is micro managing all aspects of Gambian lives to perpetuate hinself in power. Wake up and rise up Gambians.
