Gambia observes International Disaster Reduction Day
Friday, 15 October 2010 09:31

UN Security Council has set aside the second Wednesday of October each year as the 'International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction,' since 1989.
A statement from Gambia's disaster agency disclosed that the country had lined up activities, including public speeches from Vice-President Isatou Njie-Saidy, a drama sketch by youth groups, among other things.
The key message for this year's celebration revolves around - 'Making cities resilient; my city getting ready'.
The main objectives of the programmes are geared towards getting Gambians find ways of making cities resilient to disasters as part of creating sustainable urban communities.
