Gambia Justice Minister Shows True Colours
Thursday, 13 January 2011 20:25
By Austin SheridanToday the Gambia Justice Minister Edward Gomez has threatened Gambians in exile through an article by "The Daily News". “We will wait here for them to come,” he said in an interview Friday, adding that they could be safe as long as they continue to be harbored abroad, but reminded them that they will be prosecuted anytime they come to The Gambia.

This is another example of the Gambian Government threatening citizens with prosecution if they return. Gambia has a very poor human rights record and refuse to hold free and fair elections.
As the Vice Chair of the Scottish Campaign for Human Rights in the Gambia I can assure people who are reading this blog that the group is fighting for human rights in Gambia for the correct reasons. Journalists and Opposition politicians are at the receiving end of violence and oppression by the current Gambian Government if they publicly speak out against the Government in place.
Edward Gomez, Gambian Justice Minister said, "These are unfortunately evil members of The Gambian society who took refuge abroad putting every nonsensical story on papers and on radios to tarnish the good image of The Gambia government" In my opinion the most evil members of Gambian Society are people who threaten violence and oppression against it's peoples and allows female genital mutilation.
I am pleased that 24 Westminster MPs voted for the early day motion put forward by Anas Sarwar MP. I alongside other politicians and campaign group members will continue to fight for the freedom of every Gambian and ensure that their human rights are enforced.
This article was most likely designed to try and put us off campaigning. It only makes us stronger and more determined.

BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA....have you taken your herbal medicine from
We British are not so easily intimidated.
I trust this brief introduction into Gambian afairs will be of some instruction to Mr Sheridan and his colleagues.?
To my mind the British Parliament must now take stock of the deteriorating situation in The Gambia and commit to discussion with government...on several aspects of British economic and political concern....and health and safety and legal issues for British/ Gambian citizens wishing to visit The Gambia.
The British government have a duty to the health and safety of citizens either Gambian or British, that must override any economic consideration.
The Gambian government have shown there true colours. We must show ours.
If by there own admission... members of The Gambian Bar Association are living in fear...then this must be a clear sign that The Gambia has become legally disfunctional and unfit for purpose.
What do you do? except taking Gambian taxpayers money to cement a dictator. The people developing Gambia are the one leading departments and being threaten day and night of jail, sacking or labelled opposition elements while you are here singing and praising the loot. You are a sick comedian. You can even run a shop on your own much more developing Gambia

Trith’s the same EVERYWHERE; how come even strangers can realise & sympathise with Gambians’ plight when some assumed member of our community aspire for the contrary? It’s an unalienable right to defend one’s land & people by all & any means necessary. None must feel intimidated by the ‘flea-hearted’; forward ever, back-ward never; Gambia...
