Gambia imposes 20-euro fee on air travelers

Banjul_flightPANA - Passengers flying out of the Banjul International Airport will, as from 1 November, 2010, pay a fee of 20 euros to the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), a statement from GCCA, obtained by PANA here, said Tuesday. The fee, which the aviation authority called the Airport Development Fee (ADF), will not be paid by transit passengers and infants.Banjul_flight
'The announcement followed a government decision to lift the hold on the introduction of ADF and the restoration of landing, parking and lighting charges to their pre-June 2007 levels,' the management of GCAA told airlines, tour operators and passengers.
It said the introduction of ADF was earlier communicated to all stakeholders and the public in January 2009 but the implementation was put on hold till further notice.
'The Airport Development Fee of '¬20 (twenty euros) or its equivalent in dalasi (the legal tender in The Gambia) will be collected at departure by a designated GCAA official or appointed bank on their behalf, until an IATA Code is secured for its inclusion in air tickets,' GCAA added.

An idiotic strategy. Wonder types of strategist are employed in this important sector of The Gambia. When tourist numbers are declining an idiot is penalising the loyal tourist still coming to Gambia. This could have been levied on Airlines landing fees. For god sake you are holiday destination for low income earners of the west and not just any airport and any fee that directly distort tourism should b avoided especially now. Idiots
