Gambia Day of Action in London 22 July 2011
Friday, 01 July 2011 00:45
(JollofNews) - Nigeria High Commission in London will again be the focus of attention as Gambia day of Action falls
on Friday 22 July 2011 marked by a demonstration from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. The theme for this year is “CLIMATE OF FEAR CONTINUES, STOP ENFORCED DISAPPEARANCES, KILLING AND TORTURE INGAMBIA.”
Concerned about Gambia human rights issues this general notice is extended to all Gambians and Non-Gambian living in United Kingdom.

Since Amnesty International Report- “Gambia Fear Rule” published in November 2008 nothing changed for the better with human rights situation of Gambia. The demonstration in London on Friday 22nd July 2011 is to raise concern to Government of Nigerian through Nigerian High Commission in London.
Fellow Gambians and concerned global citizens, given the fact that Federal Republic of Nigeria is the current Chair of ECOWAS COMMITTEE OF HEAD OF STATES of Economic Community of West African States, we demand them to raise the following concerns with the Gambian authorities to:-
- End immediately incommunicado detention and enforced disappearances, and ensure that security
- personnel who engage in these practices are brought to justice in fair trials.
- Investigate cases of extrajudicial execution by security forces, and ensure that those responsible
- are brought to justice.
- Grant access to family members and lawyers for all political prisoners.
- Comply with obligation under the African Charter with regard to the right to liberty, freedom from torture, right to fair trail, freedom of expression and of association
Raise your concern to President Yahya Jammeh to address the four above-mentioned issues. Please also appeal to Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma to let Gambian authorities know their position on this critical human rights matter.
