Gambia beating costs Namibia one place on FIFA rankings

Scorpions move 12 places upNamibia dropped one place on the latest FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings released on 15 September. They are now 116 from last month’s 115.Namibia however remain at number 30 in Africa and has moved up one place in the SADC region to seventh place. The drop in the ranking is a result of the Brave Warriors 3-1 defeat to Gambia in their first AFCON qualifier. Gambia on the other hand climbed from 103 to 91 and are ranked 22 in Africa.

Namibia’s other opponent in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers, Burkina Faso also climbed two places on the rankings and are now 39th in the world and 8th in Africa.
South Africa are the highest-ranked SADC nation after moving up eight places to 58 on the world rankings and 10 on the African continent. Zambia remain the second ranked SADC nation with a world ranking of 72 and an African ranking of 14.Malawi are third in the SADC region with a world ranking of 78 after losing four places and an African ranking of 16. They are followed by Botswana who have made a huge leap of 11 places and now have a world ranking of 82 and an African ranking of 19.Botswana overtook Mozambique (86 in the world and 20 in Africa) and Angola (93 in the world and 23 in Africa).The biggest climbers in Africa and the world were Guinea Bissau who climbed 48 places to number 140 in the world and 39 in Africa. The biggest losers in Africa were Equatorial Guinea who dropped 19 places to 164 and now have an African ranking of 45.
The current AFCON champions, Egypt are still ranked first in Africa with a world ranking of nine. Ghana climbed three places on the world rankings and are now at number 20 but remain second on the African continent. Germany moved to number three on the world rankings after overtaking Brazil who are now ranked fourth in the world. Spain are still the number one nation in the world with the Netherlands unchanged at second. The rest of the top ten include Argentina at fifth, England, Uruguay, Portugal, Egypt and Chile.
The biggest losers in the world were El Salvador who dropped 24 places to number 110.India, who will play against Namibia on Wednesday dropped 22 places and are now ranked 160 in the world.
