From The Set Of ‘Backfire’

BS1Gambia's leading International Film maker, Bubacarr Sankanu, gives a taste of his new movie
(JollofNews) - Set on location in Cologne, Germany, with an international multicultural cast and crew, “Backfire” tells the story of Genny an emancipated woman who believes her husband Mr. Malolo cheats on her. She devises a mean plan to catch him red-handed but the plan rudely backfires on her!
Written, directed and produced by Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu, ‘’Backfire’’ is a provocative universal romantic social commentary on the effects ofBS1 exaggerated jealousy and poor communication in modern marriages and other intimate relationships. Prince Sankanu also carries the funny supporting role of Abdulai the janitor who sleeps with the wife of his boss on the simple bed of the housemaid.
Sankanu who usually works behind the scenes as Executive Producer (financier), Talent Coach, Brand Adviser and Strategy Consultant in the Pan African Film Industries do make exceptions by taking operational functions as either Director or Actor in his own projects or as commissioned cast and crew member of other filmmakers. “I am not interested in being in the limelight but if the plot of a film is dramatically first class and the lead female actresses classy hot, I would not like to miss the opportunity of performing in front of the cameras. Then in how many professions can one openly have taboo-free fun with hot ladies and get paid for it without the hypocritical morality police arresting you?” Sankanu laughs. The last major film “Adah: The Last Circumcision in Africa” on the problems of Female Genital Mutilations, FGM, (Nigeria 2008) has Prince Sankanu as Executive Producer and in the lead male role of Emeka. The next major projects that will have Prince Sankanu as Producer, Director and Actor are “Meet Me In Dubai©” to be shot on locations in UAE in 2012, “King Dunga©” to be shot in Nigeria in 2012, “Desperate Husbands©” to be shot in The Gambia (location subject to change should Brother President Jammeh's NIA, NDEA, Prosecutors, Green Boys or Girls & company try to waste Prince Sankanu's time for whatsoever) between 2013 and 2014, “Kumbi Siya©” epic film on the Ancient Ghana Empire to be shot in the border region of Senegal, Mali and Mauritania in 2015 and a biopic on Captain Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso (Sankara: Live And Die Upright©) currently being scripted.
It is not the quantity of films one makes that counts but the quality matters the most. Sankanu says “I am no part of the be-rich-quick system of flooding the markets with rushed home movies. I belong to the Sembène Ousmane school of thought that believes in making the best out of the creative arts form called filmmaking with passion, creative freedom and professional nobility. One project a time.” He continues “I first went to film school to study professional filmmaking and not mediocre video production. You can earn more money and respect from one top quality film than from hundreds of junk movies.”
