Four years on, Where is Chief Manneh?

Chief_Manneh2By Yusupha Cham
Four years after state security agents seized Chief Ebrima Manneh right under the nose of his colleagues, (despite flat out denials of ever having him) the Gambian authorities are clinging on their point that Chief is not with them.
As another anniversary passes by, I herewith share my sadness with the Manneh family in Lamin and indeed the entire journalist fraternity over this so far unexplained mystery.Chief_Manneh2
However, like most people in the World I have since convinced myself that Chief has unfortunately fallen to the axes of the killers in Gambia. There is no further reason to think otherwise.
In the Gambia, the state has a habit of dragging people out of their bed often in front of neighbors and family, move them to secret locations and subject them to torture while telling the public that it does not have them or when no one asked, maintains silence. In the case of Chief, when his colleagues and family made noise, the state paraded its usual lies that it never had him even after several sightings of the poor child at different police stations. Clearly after torturing him to death, the state found it necessary to continue to cling on to its lies.
But as we now resign ourselves to the fact that Chief is gone, we must not relax at all in the drive to achieve justice on his behalf by collecting all traces of evidence leading from his disappearance that morning at the Daily Observer to his eventual death, as well indict the key people who turned him in to the NIA. Some of the theories that initially emerged were that Chief had selected a critical article for reproduction in the Daily Observer which his colleagues took up with Saja Taal who in turn called in that Satan Momodou Sanyang, President Jammeh's newly crowned civilian Malyamugu, who whispered into Jammeh's  ears ‘’we have got the biggest saboteur at Observer".
"Deal with him,” Jammeh replied and from then on Cheif Manneh's fate was sealed.
However, along the line, and while Chief stayed at NIA, more NIA planted journalists at the Observer, in a bid to get power, raced to Momodou Sanyang's office with daily lies about Chief Manneh's alleged anti -Jammeh activities. These includes allegations that Chief had been keenly interested in the then little known Ghanaian killings and was in touch with Ghanaian online media. Some Observer staff even alleged that Chief was sponsored by a Ghanaian minister during his short study tour in Ghana three years previously.
Armed with all these cock and bull stories, bolstered by some tribalistic feelings, Momodou Sanyang, in close tandem with the late Musa Jammeh, virtually supervised the daily torture of Chief until the poor boy could not muster any more stamina and succumbed to death.
These facts have been privately corroborated by security agents who occasionally leaked or slipped mouthed info on the dead journalist to their friends and family.
In conclusion therefore I wish to make it clear that the following people be indicted in the quest for justice in Chief's case.
1. President Jammeh; for creating the deadly environment where fear, cohesion and tyranny prevail.
2. Saja Taal; For running the Observer as an Army camp, killing the spirit of comradeship there and turning journalists to NIA agents and as well being the key person who turned Chief in.
3. Momdou Sanyang; By acting as the Chief media adviser of Jammeh (when in fact he does not even know the Four Ws of journalism) has been the Satan in all Gambian journalism: undermining, lying and silently ordering arrest and torture of journalists including Cheif Manneh.
4. Pa Malick Faye; The man who allegedly reported Chief's alleged anti Jammeh stand, in his quest to become the head of Observer which he has now become.
5. Musa Jammeh; Does he even need any introduction; The late killer of President Jammeh, now probably burning in hell as he awaits his accomplices in the blazing inferno.

A colleague of mine, an ex-security agent who had closed contacts with kawsu camara, bombardier, narrated to me what kawsu told him about the murdered Ghanaians before. According to this colleague, kawsu told him “we have finished them off (up) after arresting them”. This was well before the issue became public as more information & proofs on the killings became evident later on in past years. God’s ALWAYS on the oppressed side Gambian/non. Surely we shall see justice sooner than all may assume. Those/all with such information on any atrocities must come forward for documentations for redress which’s inevitable & a must for justice/fair play.

Yusupha, I for one used to sit on fence & refuse to believe that Chief’s dead despite my conscience acknowledging the contrary until a contributor recently narrated here that he was present when musa jammeh broke chief’s hand which he “write articles with”. This indeed confirmed my worst of fears. May his soul, {of course will} rest in peace as a victim. Allah will certainly reward ALL those responsible for this in KIND as stated in the Quran; InshAllah.
