Former Observer Editor Nanama Keita fled for his life

NANAMA_DEATH_THREAT(JollofNews) - Following a man hunt spearheaded by the most feared Gambia National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and other security agencies to possibly arrest or harm Observer Sports Editor, Nanama Keita, Jollofnews has gathered that the wanted journalist has recently landed in New York, USA via Senegalese capital Dakar to take safe refugee.NANAMA_DEATH_THREAT
Mr. Keita, who was also the Deputy Editor-in-Chief at the pro-government daily newspaper, has been classified by the state as one of the “informants” of the Freedom Newspaper – an online US-based Gambia website, that is perceived to be critical of President Yahya Jammeh’s government.
Mr. Keita who received a tip off that he was about to be harmed by the government agents took on to his hills to find safety in neighboring Senegal before fleeing to New York just a few days later.
Jollofnews sources gathered that Mr. Keita has been receiving life threatening SMS texts since July following his arrest, detention and subsequent release on bail by the Gambia security agents on allegation leaking informing to Freedom Newspaper.
In the last threat, Keita was strictly warned to either leave the country, if he values his life, or be taught a lesson that he will never forget.
Years of brutal repression of critical reporting by Jammeh’s government have turned The Gambia into one of the most repressive countries for journalists in Africa.
A country that calls itself the smiling coast of Africa has not been a smiling coast for the journalists, most of whom continue to be victims of severe torture, force exile and in worst cases mysterious disappearance and brutal murder.

Grow up Lisa....

Aids is a serious problem affecting millions of people, directly or indirectly, thro ughout the world. Serious efforts are being made through recognized and accepted scientific methodology to find a solution to it.

Neither Bush, nor Cameron, has ever claimed or are likely to claim finding a cure for AIDS.

I have watched a documentary on Aljazeera (Meet the President)which is now on you tube, about Jammeh's AIDS CURE and its so embarrassing,to say the least.

Such actions by a head of state, which attract international curiosity and attention, are more damaging to the country's image than the fleeing of a mere journalist.

Whether his claim is genuine or not,the entire world, including the best medical scientists, are agreed that there is no cure of AIDS at present.

Jammeh's refusal to allow verification of the effectiveness of his treatment only exposes him as a CHEAT.

Come on now you guys,

Put yourselves in the man's position. He was arrested, detain ed,being prosecuted and facing imprisonment for what ?

For asking the owner of the company he works for to investigate his boss for malpractices and abuse of office ?

Only God knows what he went through whilst in detention, but given the mysterious disappearance of Chief Manneh under somewhat similar circumstances,M r Keita is right to fear for his safety.

Its unfair to accuse Keita and all who flee the country of tarnishing The Gambia's image.

I think our government is the biggest culprit in that 'crime',and President Jammeh,is certainly its leading player.

What can be more embarrassing than a president claiming to cure AIDS ?

What can be more damaging to the image of a country than the involvement of its government in murder/killings,or its president being linked to drugs/arms smuggling ?

Why is it that some people cannot stand to see someone's escaping danger... Its like, seeing Keita being sent to prison was the very wish some of you harbour. As you write your comments, u have to remember that every man has his own destiny and namana keita is not an exception. Whether he is in US or not, best thing is that he has escaped the gambia

JOLLOF NEWS SAYS"A COUNTRY THAT CALLS ITSELF A SMILING COAST OF AFRICA HAS NOT BEEN A SMILING COAST FOR THE JOURNALISTS".
How come everyone smiles here except for the journalist?I have totally agreed with Radio Kangkang and Lisa. Most of these journalist are just eating their own flesh. Many people believe that FREEDOM NEWSPAPER is making lots of money through this "ASYLUM" business. Most of these journalists want to travel Abroad for greener pastures and as a result, they will start misbehaving in order to be arrested and sent to prison. This will enable them to flee the country upon release and apply for ASYLUM.Of course,we have very good journalists but the majority of them are just SELFISH people trying to fulfill their personal dreams.

To Radiokankang and Lisa, i can sense some sort heartlessness and jealousy in your comments. I agree that some journalists do fled on their own, but the case involving people like Omar Bah, Musa Saidykan, kemo Cham etc and now Namama Keita are clear cut genuine cases. I personally had contacted keita since the start of the problem to leave the country becos his life was in danger and his stubbornness to remain all this while but no bravery at all. I just thank God that he is safe now.

Lisa, this is the first time you have make sense to me, now you're my friend, you're absolutely right, the only way to get USA visa, nowaday's is to published negative articles and be arrested or taking to court, so you can used eigther or, as a prove to your case, it is the easies way to America and the quickies to obtaining a greencard up to a citizenship, filled for your entire family to abroad with free education, as long as these opportunities are available, this practice will never stop, ask your self, how many journalis do you know who has a greencard or citizenship, without going though these practice 99.9% are asylum seekers. that is why we're lacking ethical journalist. I forgives you now, because your comment makes me feel really good. you take care my sister or brother who knows.
