Editorial: The Opposition Merger

OPPOSITION_LEADERS(JollofNews) - Unless we are terribly mistaken, the recent pronouncement by the PDOIS seems to suggest that there is still a strong desire among the party's leadership for a united opposition in the coming elections. Indeed one might argue that PDOIS has always entertained the idea of a united opposition. What however is new and promising in their recent pronouncements is that the party seem to have taken a soft and conciliatory approach to the process of selecting a single opposition candidate. OPPOSITION_LEADERS
PDIOS perhaps realise now that though, agenda 2011, or some aspects of it , is a fantastic piece of paper to build a united opposition around, the sheer amount of time it will take to ge to the end of the process, if it ever is accepted to the other parties, will take a huge chunk from the electioneering period. This is probably the reason PDOIS is now building the battering ram of the masses who aspire change, no matter what party they might belong, by inviting them to attend their forthcoming show of strength rallies, called to galvanise unity among militants and put pressure on opposition politicians to come together. We commend these initiatives that will surely go a long way to enhance our democracy by providing a strong and viable alternative choice to our people. In the interest of Gambians who aspire change we urge the PDOIS leadership to go further to show the high intellect and huge moral standing that they have always been known for by removing all or any further condition that they might have that may hinder unity. PDOIS must realise that though it might seem a smaller party to the UDP, its leadership quality, integrity and huge sacrifices have made them an indispensable force in any united political front. By all indications the very presence of the PDOIS leadership in any union, is a reflection of the great respect such organisation has. PDOIS might be the party of principles and sophisticated doctrines but they have clearly marked out a strong foundation for Gambian democracy and provide inspiring, honest and progressive leadership ideas that have won the admiration of even their opponents. The party is therefore an integral part of any future Gambia.
For any of this great aspirations to come to fruit though, UDP and other opposition parties must also show flexibility and seize the initiative by engaging the PDOIS leadership in discussions and showing up in these coming rallies so as to consolidate and bring back hope to the Gambians who prefer change. Once the people are mobilised, the leaders must then get down to brass tacks by unanimously selecting a candidate to contest the polls. The people aspiring change wish to see a formidable candidate who will not be shy of forcefully denouncing Jammeh and his policies at all ‘Bantanbas and vous’ while providing alternative ideas. Such a person must be ready to obey and respect all and any agreements that are made at the time of the unification and should be ready to sail the country to much calmer waters than is the case now. The role of UDP in this arrangement is crucial. The party must be seen to be accommodating and respectful to ideas other than theirs and rise above the politics of tribalism that it is often rightly or wrongly associated with by the APRC. Yes the party may be bigger in support but that does not automatically translate to all conquering when dealing with other party. But perhaps what is even more requiring of the UDP is the need to muster the courage and resolve to tackle the APRC's strong arm tactics. The APRC leadership has nursed the notion that UDP is cheap, PDOIS too principled and decent, and the rest of the parties insignificant. The task before all the opposition politicians is to put national interest and forget their egos and differences and rally behind a single candidate. According those Gambians aspiring change, the opposition must always realise that even the worst among them, is better than President Jammeh.

This the reason we APRC, are going to win by a widing margin, because you the oppositions are busy fighting each other, your leaders does the samething, you do not have a point of directions and you're not tolerance at all. The oppositions leaders you had, is the same leaders you still present before the Gambian people, and yet blaming YAHYA JAMMEH for staying too long, the only reason why the opposition dont wanna ask for term limit referandum is becouse they know that Gambian peoples will reject it once again, they knew who is better for them and they will vote that way, you cannot dictate to whom they should vote this coming elections, vote for your choice and let them vote for their choice, that dont need months of campaigning. I respect all opposition leaders, becouse without them there will be no democracy.

IT IS HIGH TIME FOR SIDIA JATTA TO LEAVE PDOIS.MAY BE WE SHOULD HELP HIM BY PETITIONING HIM. HE HAS NO POLITICAL FUTURE WITH HALIFA SALLAH AND SAM SARR.
OUSAINOU DARBOE SHOULD BUILD ALLIANCE WITH THE GENUINE OPPOSITION.

I think we should have a female candidate and the choice should be either the elegant ms mariam jack-denton (mu sir alieu sulayman jack) of udp or one eyed amie sillah of pdois. How about that.

Tonyaa, you are sick. don't you know ousainou darboe's father followed PS Njie, until his death. Ousainu was living with Ps Njie when he was going to high school, ousainu married two wives none OF whom is a mandinka.

When Lawyer pap cheyassin secka was imprisoned for treason during the adminstration of president jawara, it was ousainu Darboe who was taking care of his family. You can come here and write to insult an honourable man. Ousainu is full of conscience and a firm beleiver of social justice.

I blame jollof editorial team for keeping you in this forum.

NOW I WILL NOT TALK TO THE PDOIS people UNTIL HALIFA SALLAH AND SAM SARR ANSWER THE QUESTIONS. Let them respond to the following questions:Why Halifa Sallah has been using his energy to set O.J against Ousainou Darboe? Why is he always portraying himself as the prototype of Good while other opposition members are branded as Evil Makers? Why Sam Sarr,Emil Touray refused that the GAMES Project be audited? Why Sam Sarr has the right to use the GPU account while denying this privilege to the GPU SG Gibairu Janneh? Why GPU properties are being diverted to Foroyaa? Why Foroyaa's Ousman Sillah requested $300 to African Editors Forum for transport fare between Banjul and Dakar (by route please)?
OUSAINOU DARBOE NEEDS TO BUILD ALLIANCE. WITH GENUINE PEOPLE, NOT WITH THOSE WHO ARE BUSY EXPLOITING JOURNALISTS, DIVIDING THEM.

LISA,Democrat please don't put Ousainou Darboe in the same basket with the PDOIS (Halifa Sallah, Sam Sarr and Amie Sillah). Halifa Sallah thinks he knows everything. He thinks he is on top of the mountain capable with a Cyclope Eye to embrace Gambian realities at one glance...He has been contesting for ages.if he was that relevant and knowledgeable, how come he cannot pull more than 5% of votes?
PDOIS HAS FAILED AND THEY WANT THE GENUINE OPPOSITION TO FOLLOW THEM IN THEIR DECADENCY.THEY ARE HANGING ON GAMBIA PRESS UNION 'SHOULDERS' TO SURVIVE

Quoting LISA:
selfish opposition,i am anti jammeh but he is even better than you.Boycott the discredited election but you refuse to listen to voters just cause you need your sponsors funds even though you all know u dont have chance.

Ah! so because they "dont have chance", they should boycott? What kind of democracy are you really yearning for? The democracy which goes only your way? You are right, the Jammeh you are anti is 1000s times better than you.
