Editorial: Good news from Gambia

As President Jammeh invites media chiefs for talksJollofNews - An encouraging wind of change seems to be blowing in Gambia, where news coming in says President Yahya Jammeh has proposed a meeting with heads of the various media outlets in the country.
The relationship between the media and the government in Banjul symbolizes Gambia’s seemingly unbeatable record as the most unfriendly to free expression – hence endless reports of human rights violations.

But, as it appears now, all this is likely to come to an end; that is of course if the proposed meeting between Jammeh and media chiefs doesn’t only become a reality, but also helps set in a new and acceptable chapter for all sides.
“… it was just a follow up to the earlier meeting the media chiefs had with the New Press Director Fatou Camara and this one is purely with the Big Man,” a source told Jollof News this evening, on condition of anonymity.
Up until this period, however, Jollof News has been unable to confirm this as every effort to reach the new press director since news of her appointment came into light have so far failed to get any response. We do hope, however, that this is true as it is all the country needs – freedom of expression, equal treatment of the media and related democratic reforms.
There is every reason to speculate about the timing of this development, given unfolding situations in the region and beyond, and also given that elections are just at the corner in Gambia. But given that this is what is right for the Gambia today, if by ignoring the urge for conjecture can help take us to our desired destination, so be it.
Meanwhile, fingers’ crossed!

This is another false dawn. Jammeh, like all preying leopards, cannot change their spots.
All of Jammeh's machiavellian moves are part of a grand charade meant to buy time and keep people talking about irrelevant issues.
Sorry for raining on your parade!
WHEN YOU HAVE FEAR FOR SO LONG, JUST AS A PATHOGEN OF DISEASE CAN BECOME IMMUNE TO CERTAIN MEDICATIONS AFTER A WHILE, SO DOES A SOCIETY OVERCOME OPPRESSION AND BREAK THE CHAINS THAT BIND THEM.
SO LET THE SYCOPHANTS CONTINUE THEIR FEAR-MONGERING, PEOPLE ARE TOO FED UP AND HUNGRY TO CARE ANY LONGER.
I want to add to that opinion by stating my belief that Jammeh has seen the writing on the wall and is making attempts (too late i might add) to prevent the inevitable, but his sycophants would still support a continuation of the same state of affairs through fear-monering and attempts at dividing those who wanna go out there and take on Jammeh and his thugs
What Gambians should demand is a complete abdication of Yaya Jammeh, not some attempt to placate media chiefs in his own way.
Jammeh is a totally rotten package and is completely beyond salvage. This guy is only making these half-hearted concession because he has seen the house of cards falling all around him.
Some dictators made some sort of REAL concession like promising not to be re-elected etc etc, and this fool thinks he can get away with these half measures?
BALANGABA is coming no matter how he attempts to obstruct it, because while the people are struggling just to make ends meet, he is driving around in a convoy of multi-million dollar vehicles and throwing endless in Kanilai for musicians and beauty queens!! The whole country knows that this guy is out of touch with reality and it is time we take back our destiny into our own hands!
Hell no, dont insult the sense of pride of Gambians. I do not see the PDOIS people (Foroyaa) giving into the manipulative demand of Jammeh; no the UDP people (Daily News) wasting time to listen to him insult them at State House.
The blood can never be totally cleansed of its impurity, so are those of tyrants with the chronic dissease of paranoia. Jammeh surely can never fix this problem by talking to sellouts like Pap Saine and Hamid, who continue to sing his praises despite having experienced the limit of his tyranny.
Jammeh has to talk to GPU, that is the only way out, and I am afraid, I can't see him do that either, cos the current leadership is totally incorruptible, which makes it less likely for him to get his way easily.
Fatou, you have a big work to do if you want to cleanse this mess. By the way, haveyou paid your debts yet, yourself Fatou?
That lame attempt to manipulate the press by your press secretary does not wash with the Gambian people. It is better to start change yourself than to have people force it upon you.
