Editorial: Behind the Coup plot saga
Wednesday, 23 June 2010 17:00
Even under growing international criticism over his treatment of his opponents, it is now increasingly likely that President Jammeh is for some
reason, all out to lock up his else while former close ally Gen. Lang Tombong Tamba, by one way or the other. This is ever more clear by the new coup plot charges that has been slammed on the former Gambian General.
Clearly after realising that the original coup plot story with all its ridiculous embellishments by the mercenary witnesses, cannot stand in any court, except in kangaroo ones, Jammeh is now clearing a new battle field to get the General caged by all means.
In his vindictive mind, Jammeh has calculated that since the details of the 2006 coup was only known to military insiders, he could use the men and officers against one another to eliminate the General once and for all.
But wait a minute and ponder just what is Jammeh leaning on here. In our view Jammeh must have known all the while since 2006 about Tamba's alleged involvement in that coup but since the General was the one who secured his throne for him eventually, he chosen not to pursue that allegations until the right time. That right time been when he Jammeh began to be jealous of the man he decorated and promoted more than anyone. But is Jammeh in fact not risking serious entanglement of himself in the mess that followed that coup plot? Because when Genreral Tamba told the earlier court that he knew nothing about Daba Marena and Co, nobody believed him. He was just playing the good soldier, refusing to disclose state secrets, because, as the CDS Tamba of course knows what happened to Daba and Co. But how long will Tamba continue to keep being a good soldier, until he goes to the drain himself. Would he not change his mind to spill the beans now that he knows that he will not be spared no matter how loyal he remains to his former boss even as a prisoner. In our view any attempt to drag Tamba to the ground over the 2006 coup issue would lead to serious and chilling revelations of hidden atrocities that Gambians have since suspected, unless he is a fool who wants to die alone.
In the interest of peace and security of our dear country therefore we called on President Jammeh to quit this witch-hunting and persecution of perceived opponents triggered by nothing but jealousy. Using state apparatus to settle scores and destroy peoples' careers and lives have long been the hallmark of the Jammeh regime and it is time a stop be put to it. Our country deserves better than this clownish crusade by the state to destroy people just because the head of state is jealous or afraid of them, all in his selfish protection of his unquenchable lust for power. Those who abuse state power will live to regret it. It is a matter of time.

This man called yahya Jammeh is a devil,we pray for the end of his era.Gambians including Africans and other nationalities have suffered in the hands of Jammeh and his serial killers.Jammeh is a criminal,he shall be prosecuted one day.
This is just one of the few perks of being the man at the top.In return citizens expect their leader to honor the oath of office, which is to uphold the constitution. If that leader turns around and uses the state security apparatus as instruments of terror then it is the honorable duty of every citizen to resist that tyranny by any means at hand.
Gambia has gotten to a point where we seriously risk descending into a chaotic civil strife thanks to the paranoia of one man.People can only tolerate so much and i believe Gambia is approaching the tipping point.Even those who thought they were secure in complicity with the dictator are begining to waver and i know things cannot just keep on the way they are for long.
