Deputy Mayor of St. Louis threatens to resign over floods

Alioune Badara Cisse, at a news conference on Tuesday in St. Louis, deplored the Senegalese government’s silence over the situation and called
for urgent action.Senegal has been marred by a series of flood, displacing multitude of its population who live in traditionally flood prone areas.
"The state is playing dead when there is nothing more urgent than to help the affected populations in the city of St. Louis,” he said, adding that if no action was taken by the authorities he would resign and let “the people, themselves, judge.”
The Senegalese Prime Minister had earlier announced the eminent arrival of a senior military official in the city, on Friday, to ascertain the level of damage; but Deputy Mayor Alioune Badara Cisse insisted Friday was too long. He said the situation was so serious that it required prompt action.
