Cricket Girls gear up for Banjul Tourney

With only two months to go before Gambia plays host to an international female cricket championship, one of the participating countries
has vowed to snatch the trophy right under the nose of the host and others.Nearly half a dozen African nations will travel to Banjul in October for the championship expected to feature the best of female cricketers.
A report monitored at Gamsports.com on the preparations indicates that Sierra Leone has thrown great efforts to put a good show In Banjul.

Senior female cricket player Sarah Johnson has revealed to leading Freetown paper, Awoko Sports, that they are hoping to return home with the trophy from The Gambia where they will be participating in their first international cricket competition in October this year.
According to Sarah, the female cricket team comprises of both young and old players that can make a good blend that will represent Sierra Leone in any international competition.
She also stated that since the team started training they have learnt a lot from their coaches Abdul Sesay (KoKo) and Mohamed Boys Kamara, and they are determine as a team to pass the knowledge gain into reality during the competition.
Meanwhile Cricket officials in Banjul have acknowledged they are due to host the tourney and appealed for support from the public and government to stage a good show. 'Cricket is still below the ladder in terms of sponsorship in this country and this must change as Gambia was better known for cricket than football in the early days. We need to develop sports in general and not a selected few disciplines'', and official told Gamsports.
