Cameroon off to a winning start in 2011 AYC
Monday, 18 April 2011 17:28
Ahram Online - Cameroon defeated Gambia 1-0 in the African Youth Championship on Monday
A fine strike from Edgar Nicaise Constant Sally gave Cameroon a precious 1-0 win over Gambia in their group match opener on Sunday.
Sally tricked the dedense and benefited from a blunder by the Gambian keeper to break the deadlock in the first half injury time.
Gambia tried to react in the second half but the 1995 champions were able to maintain their lead until the end of 90 minutes.
Cameroon join Nigeria - who earlier defeated defending champions Ghana 2-1 - on top of group B. Both sides will clash on Thursday in round two and the winner will secure a place in the semis and this summer’s World Youth Championship in Colombia.
