Friday, 10 December 2010 12:13
British Foreign Secretary William Hague has been urged to press the Gambia government to open an
independent investigation into enforced disappearance, ill treatment in prison, unlawful killings, torture and detention without trials in the country. As the international community observe the 62nd anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Friday Dec 10th, Mr Hague is also been asked to seek a halt to the
use of death penalty in the country, which is not in line with section 15 of the Gambian constitution. The call comes from the Scottish based Campaign for Human Rights in Gambia Chairman Arthur West, who has written to the Foreign Secretary appealing to him to make representations to the President of The Gambia, his Vice President and Foreign Minister.
A copy of Mr West’s letter is republished below:

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Office
King Charles Street

7 December 2010
This letter is in support of Gambians unlawfully killed, detained, torture and disappeared from 1994 to date, the victims includes journalists, students, political activists and many ordinary citizens who have been active in fighting for social justice in The Gambia.
In doing so they have committed no criminal offences,The Gambian constitution gurantees freedom of expression.
As the world celebrates International Human Rights Day on Friday December 10th We ask you to intercede with the president of the Gambia, his Vice president and Foreign minister to urged that these people are accounted for and are not ill treated while in prison to urge that they are swiftly released on bail and to urge that they have a fair hearing.
We further ask you to press the government of the Gambia to end harrasments, threats and attacks on the media and repeal repressive media laws that have contributed significantly to a climate of self-censorship and fear and to intiate media laws that are in accordance with the 1997 Gambian constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights.
Finally we ask that you call upon the Gambia government to halt the use of death penality in the country, the recent amendment to the Drug Control Act which provides that any person found in possession of 250kg of cocaine or heroine shall on conviction be sentenced to death is not in line with section 15 of the constitution of the Gambia.
I hope that you feel able to make these humanitarian representation to the leaders of the Gambia and that you will advice us at you earliest opportunity.

xenaphobic robots !!!
{No disrespect to robots intended?}
Deal with the WikiLeak saga first,... then come back to us. May be, then, may be, we'll will listen. Hypocrite!
Yea, Lalo, am with u on this one.. and don't listen to the Uncle Toms and Sams and the Aunty Margaret...
So if you hate to seeing it on here or hearing it as the "WAZUNGU" that is your bread and butter !
And if you happen to be one of Mother Africa's Sons or Daughters, then as they call it in Sierra Leone:
"MY BODY EDEH DIE FOR YOU"
In her service I always remain !
Can you hear me there SKY or GROUND ?
I have embraced the first but greatly admire the second.
I thank the Gambia for my education.
Comment:
Don't ever thank the Gambia with her Mosqutoes and backwardness.
Just Thank Her Majesty there in the Kindom for your ancestors invation of ourland without issuing of a Visa to them
In the service of the Gambia I remain
Modest and unassuming...but conceals ambition?
Crusoe and Friday...were so diametrically opposed in every way.
There is no need to name tag all there differences.
I took the essence of the story....as an example of those differences being placed to one side, in order for the mutually assured survival of both.
Once rescued...they returned to there different societies and prospered.
But the white guy...saw power and wealth as the mantles of his success..and the black guy saw....community and family values ..as his.
I have embraced the first but greatly admire the second.
I thank the Gambia for my education.
I hate to lead but at the same time, Iam always happy to facing any challenges in life.
Robinson Crusoe and Friday are thesame person of similar character but Lalo Kebba and Mike are not thesame neither in colour nor in character !
In the service of mother Africa I remain
Let me first of all thank you for your advise and May God/Allah put in in your Balance on the day of judgement...Amen.
But I want to let you know that, if you ever come to know Lalo Kebba, you will know that Iam not a hatry person but the sign of hatry we do encount everywhere under this planet is the cause of it that some of my calibre want to even remain poor than to anymore bow down to any WAZUNGU...Anyone hiding behind different names and attacking Africans online, will always meet Lalo ever ready to fire back and I don't refuse to gain any result even if it mean to loosing my life.. Lumumba, Thomas Sankara and Stive Biko did it: Am I better than them
But I will break for the moment till when I read any negative rejoinder !
As I remain in the service mother Africa
If Lalo and I were marooned on a desert island...we would get on just fine.
I would be happy if he were Robinson Crusoe...and I ...his man Friday.
Being a "Boss"...is a great responsibility.
I found it against my principals...pretending to be so wise?
I am much happier...playing dumb..and " admiring others, who wish to climb so high.
Once you've climbed to the top...the only way is down.
" For what does it profit any man...to gain the whole world...but lose his soul"
{are you listening Mr Jammeh?}
Islam and Christianity teach that...this life is but a preparation for the next.
The next is supposed to be better?
Sounds good to me?
In the mean time...spread a little joy?
and dont forget to say your prayers.
After all....we are ALL African's
Don’t let hatred of the white or west derived you of your dignity. I know you are better and stronger than that. How on earth can you bring development and modernity to Gambia if that’s the way you see the WEST in General, and not to talk of tourism.Mike Scales did contribute a lot of educative comments on this online paper likewise you.. so please try to focus on that instead of his skin...you criticise and attack Mr Scales more you do with Yahya Jammeh, who has killed, tortured, stole, and exiled Gambians.
Like you, Mike cares about Gambia and I know you have doubt about that. Yahya Jammeh is our devil and the oppressor of Black Africans and Gambians.. He deserves our cultural hospitality like all the Gambian you has shown it to in this site. Mike is one of us and does not need my permission or yours to love or be Gambian. So please please please just let it be in the service of mother Africa. Meant no offence to you my brother and brother mike too.
