Gbagbo_and_JammehLetter from America
Dear Mr. Gbagbo,
As you can see, this letter does not have your address. There is a perfectly good reason for that. I don’t know whether you would still be cowering in that Presidential bunker in Abidjan like the coward you are, or whether you would have been dragged out and torn into pieces by the people who gave you so much, but who in return, you showered only misery and suffering. In fact, I am not going to veer off to a tangent totally unrelated to the focus of this letter, so let me get back on message to indulge in the salient point. And that is, we Gambians are informed that you may consider our country as your place of refugee. This is a speculation running wild around here, but since no other country is likely to accept you, it seems more probable that there may be some modicum of truth to it. Mr. Gbagbo, I do understand theGbagbo_and_Jammeh predicament you are in and I sympathize with you, but again I don’t; and if this sounds paradoxical, it is because it is. I have lived long enough to understand the nature of human beings, and I feel uniquely qualified to offer you some wise counsel over this matter. I know how it feels like to be homeless, for I have lived that life before. But the circumstances surrounding our homelessness are different. Your impending homelessness is motivated by your greed, whereas mine was driven by a sense of altruism. I know that sounds ridiculous. But that is a story for another day. Mr. Gbagbo, if you still contemplate The Gambia as a place of refuge, may I advice you to change your mind. I can tell you with absolute certainty that no Gambian that I know of sympathizes with the predicament you put yourself in, and as such, they do not want you loafing around in our country. For one thing, this will give our country a bad name and probably sour our relations with the government of The Right Hon. Alassane Ouattara, President of The Ivory Coast, even before he assumes authority over his country. We don’t want to start off with that burden on our head. Secondly, you are better off just running across the border into Ghana. I think since Ghana is your neighbor, you have a better chance there with the other sell-out, John Atta Mills. After all, in running across the border to Ghana, perhaps the only danger to you is the machete welding freedom fighters who may or may not butcher you like they did to President Nino Vierra of Guinea-Bissau. By the way, did you see those gruesome photos of Nino Vierra? Let me whisper a confidential piece of information into your ears; Yahya Jammeh was the mastermind of Nino Vierra’s murder. Now do you still feel comfortable coming to The Gambia? I hope not. But if I have not swayed your mind, maybe I should let you know ahead of time that Yahya Jammeh may soon flee into his own bunker and that bunker is designed to accommodate only one family; Yahya Jammeh’s. Sir, your presence in that bunker will crowd out the Jammeh’s and bad tempers may flair between your ugly wife and Jammeh’s beautiful Medusa. Moreover, if you retire into that bunker with Jammeh, what are you going to do if the place is smoke-bombed and the oxygen sucked out? I am sure you do not want to die of asphyxiation; do you? The final reason why coming to The Gambia may not be a good idea is the high hurdle you have to overcome flying to The Gambia. Sir, may I inform you that the air above The Guinea Mountains is very unstable; in fact it is extremely turbulent for air-planes to fly over. Your plane might drop from the sky and no one will find your body again. Isn’t that bad enough? Just think about it. I am sorry if I sound harsh and brutal, but I will make up to you by recommending that you get a collection of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s albums and hear him talk about people like you more than thirty years ago when you and I were much younger. And if that does not sober you and bring your high horse down, nothing else will. My dear brother Laurent Gbagbo, I want to end by telling you that you are not welcome to our country. We the people stand behind the people of the beautiful country of The Ivory Coast, and nothing will change that. I know you have millions of dollars of looted Ivorian financial assets to bring and spend in our country, and that is precisely one of the main reasons why we don’t want you here. You are better off choosing a more hospitable place as your last abode. By the way, did I tell you that your to-be host here, Yahya Jammeh is also on his way out? Soon he too may be looking for refugee destination; that is, if he is not brutally savaged into non-existence. I am sure you don’t want to be caught in another brutal bunker battle, do you? As you can see, I have injected some humor into this letter to cheer you up. Still the fact remains. We Gambians do not welcome you within our borders. If you insist and still come here, you will have a hostile nation to contend with. By the way, do you know that stupid thing that “we are all Africans and are supposed to love each other?” To Hell with that!
