Calls for help from rights groupsBy Yaya Dampha
The wife of Major Wally Nyang, an officer of the Gambia Armed Forces who has been in detention for some 21 Months now, has been calling attention to the continued detention of her husband.
Fatou Jobe Nyang told JollofNews that her family has no idea of any crime committed by her husband and that the Gambian authorities have not said anything regarding his crimes.

Detention without trial has become a common phenomenon in Gambia today. It has left many families, like that of Mrs Nyang, virtually hopeless and helpless, done in serious violation of the Constitution of the Gambia.
Major Wally Nyang was part of the Gambia National army’s intake number 18 in 1995. He rose through the ranks to a major and was second in command at the Fajara Barracks in Bakau.
Speaking to this reporter from somewhere in the United States, a distressed Madam Fatou Jobe Nyang said her husband had been ordered to report to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) on the 5th of March 2009, and that since then they have never set eyes on him. She said they were later informed that Major Nyang had been placed under detention at the NIA where he spent a night before been dismissed from the military on March 6.
"We were later told he was arrested and taken to Mile II Central prison," Madam Jobe Nyang said. Since then, she added, none of the family members have had access to him.”
Mrs Nyang described the arrest and subsequent disappearance of her husband as a very “sad” and “unfortunate situation”.
“It is 21 one months now since his arrest," she said.
The entire family of the detained army major is worried about his health as they do not have any access to him.
Arguing that they have no clue about the reason for his detention, Fatou Jobe Nyang called on the Gambian President Yahya Jammeh to release her husband. She said the detained major, who is the bread winner of his family, left an aging mother behind who is growing weaker by the day since the arrest and detention of her son.
In the same vein, Fatou Jobe Nyang is calling on Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and all rights groups to come to their aid regarding the continued unexplained detention of her husband.

THis is exactly my point, unity against the enemy.
These kind of attack on grieving families will not only boost the moral of the oppressor, but it will discourage Gambians from fighting. You can't be out of the country and expect people to sacrifice by doing what would put them and families in geopardy... there is a way of dealing wit a brut, so that you can leave for the next day to continue the fight.
Have you thought of the fact that Major Nyang might have gotten to this point because of his effort to make change?
We can not win by attacking and blaming one another, simple!
My message to you is to open the gates of that prison and free the sons and daughters of Gambia. You will never be secure by denying others their security.Gambia is fast approaching a crossroads and what happens to Gambia tomorrow depends on what you do today. The choice is yours FOR NOW.
By the way this is coming form a man whoes uncle is lambasting in jail and accused of plotting a coup.
These people think nothing will happen to them.
The poor women couldn't be held responsible for what her husband was responsible; and that doesn't mean she can complain if her family is affected by the ruthless tyrant's work.
Did you take note of where she is talking from?
How many families in Gambia are going through such experience, yet they can't speak out?
Please, let us take our time in the way we approach issues. Being a ilitary man in Jammeh Gambia doesn't neccessarily make you guilty of the crimes being committed by the murderer tyrant. Remember, others are awaiting the gallows for allegedly wanting to remove rhe tyrant.
other husbands, sons and fathers who disappeared whilst your husband was still an active major?
let us not wait until we are directly affected to stand against injustice.
The rest of the satory is known.
