Arms seized in Nigeria were for Gambia: Iran ambassador

gambia-yahya-jammehAFP - Tehran's ambassador to Nigeria said Tuesday that arms seized in October at a port in Lagos were destined for the Gambia and followed an agreement between Iran and the small West African nation.
The controversial arms shipment sent from Iran has drawn international attention because it could constitute a violation of sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear programme. gambia-yahya-jammeh
An alleged Iranian Revolutionary Guard member, also identified in court documents as a businessman, has been charged in Nigeria over the shipment.
Iran said previously that the arms were bound for a West African country and were sent by a private company. Gambia severed ties with Iran after earlier allegations that it was the intended recipient, which it has denied.
Iran's ambassador in Abuja, Hussein Abdullahi, told journalists that he met with Nigerian government officials after the seizure.
"I informed them formally that this consignment was not for Nigeria. The destination is Gambia," he said
"It is based on the agreement signed between Iran and Gambia three years back and this is not the first part of that consignment. This is the third part, and I asked them to please not to allow people who are not happy with our friendly relations to gain advantage of this incident."
Asked why the cache, which included rockets and grenades, was disguised as building material, he said he did not know since a private company handled the shipment.
As for why Gambia severed ties with Iran, Abdullahi said the country was upset that Tehran had disclosed a confidential agreement to Nigeria.
Iran is under four sets of UN sanctions over its disputed nuclear
programme, including a ban on arms sales. Nigeria has reported the seizure to the UN Security Council.

What more evidence do you need? The revelations are coming from Iran who are a party to the deal sign with the Gambia. Are you now the spokesman for the Gambia government?

Neither do i believe the Iranian Ambassador, nor do i believe any one of you. This Ambassador is just trying to steal the attention of the U.N inspectors but the real evidence is yet to come. These investigations are led by professionals and they will never rush to judgement. If the results prove that ,the Gambia was the FINAL destination, the n i will give you a credit for getting your predictions right. On the other hand,if they clear The Gambia of all these allegations,i expect you to give me my victory. All these comments are just assumptions but the REAL comment is coming from the U.N report.Again,Iran is not the U.N and i trust my government better than i trust them.Do you know that these Super countries who put the embargo on them will meet them in mid-sea to buy oil or arms from them?.What a hypocritical double standard is this?.The Gambia's future does not depend on Iran or any other country but it depends on us, Gambians.I am absolutely optimistic about the U.N findings!.

It has been more than 36 hours since this story was reported all over the world and still no word from the Gambia government.Any credible government would have released a statement by now.Continued silence amounts to guilt.

was jammeh lying "through njogu bah" then when he said that the arms did not belong to Gambia. "no power on earth can stop the gambia from importing arms."
who really owns the arms then???

we are still to know the whole story..
People who oppose jammeh really under-estimate him. this guy is a sociopath and the truth is only God can save us. because this guy will not leave power through conventional means (and that includes coups)

Not only is this revelation by the Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria embarassing, it is also damaging on so many levels for The Gambian nation and the Presidency as a Gambian institution. Chei! The Gambia has slid down precipitously from a beacon of democracy, super independent judiciary, human rights capital etc to what is fast becoming a pariah in the neighborhood. It's distressing when you come to think of where we are and what could have been.

@Jammeh4life:
Thanks for the prompt response, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. I believe that we all love the Gambia; and I (and many on this forum) will like to see a democratic regime where we can 'agree to disagree' on some issues.
In response to your comment, it seems that you are avoiding the issues:
If the article says DESTINATION THE GAMBIA; well that is correct because last time I checked, KANILAI farms was in the Gambia. So it's either I'm really retarded and cannot see the difference or someone who thinks everyone else in this forum is an idiot/fool, does not know that KANILAI farms is in the Gambia. I think the statement is correct
I will really appreciate your comments on the 'silence' of Kanilai farms on the issue. With regards to fools and idiots, well that's another issue all together.
As patriots, we should expose any individual/entity who attempts to smear the reputation of our beloved nation. Don't you agree Jammeh4Life?

Samory

This guy is not serious. His King Kong baboon Jammeh is an arm dealer and he cannot swallow it. If he is really interested in those questions, tell him to go and put those questions to his king kong.

A tip for him…..

“HAIL KING KONG, IRAN SAID YOU BROKE RELATIONS BECAUSE THEY REPORT YOU TO NIGERIA, IS THAT THAT THE REASON YOU BROKE THAT RELATION”? Simple eeeeeeeehhhhh.

He support someone for life yet he cannot dare ask him these questions instead want jollofnews or the internet to answer it for him, shows what a oppressed puppet he is by his KING KONG Jammeh. This lad love and live and die for a human yet he can ask him questions which cannot make him sleep yet he want US or Iran to help him.

He is the 21 century perfect investigator or outvestigator, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. No wonder he is confused on this one too.

SAMORY

You have so aptly clarified the issue that i believe that if some people had only half a brain they should understand your point.

I just wish to add my observation that while companies and individuals are being dragged to court for the most trivial reasons, we have killers and con men acting on behalf of the president going about their daily lives without any hinderance. This sums up Jammeh's Gambia
