Are you watching Mr President?

President_Jammeh_12Breathtaking events are unfolding right in front of our eyes. In the span of less than two months, we have seen sit-tight despots flushed out of power by their people. How wonderful is that?
And as I write this article, the tyrant of Libya, Maumar Gaddafi is under great pressure to step down. His people want a complete overhaul of the political system he introduced forty something years ago.
As I watched his 75 minutes of televised address to his people last night on Al-Jazeera, I could seePresident_Jammeh_12 fear in his eyes. Like all blood thirsty dictators, Gaddafi is very afraid of the future and that is why he is using mercenaries and the Libyan air force to commit heinous crimes against his own people.
Gaddafi needs to wake up from his Bedouin tent and smell the coffee. He has stayed in power for too long and his people have had enough of his misrule and brutalities. And no amount of bombings and shootings is going to stop them. Of course, it may slow them down sometimes, but these protesters will topple him either today, tomorrow or next year. So pack your tents and disappear into the books of history before it is too late.
Events happenings in Libya and Bahrain should serve as a wake up call to our dictator, Yahya Jammeh. As a protégé of Gaddafi, Jammeh has to consider introducing serious political reforms in the Gambia.
While I will not rush to predict mass anti Jammeh demonstrations in Gambia, I sincerely believe that a reform in the country’s political system will no doubt prevent civil and political unrest in the country.
President Jammeh has to realise that the Gambian people are tired and have had enough of his rule. They are tired of waking up everyday and seeing him getting fatter and fatter at their expense while they suffer with starvation. They are sick of being unable to meet the rising costs of living while he and his associates divert their taxes to fund their flamboyant life styles. They are tired of the frequent arrests, imprisonment, torture and disappearance of their loved ones. They are tired of seeing him tightening his grip on everything in the Gambia.
The Gambian people want a leadership that will rule them according to dictates of the 1997 Constitution. They want a government that will not enslave them. They want a government that will not seize their fundamental rights and freedoms.
Of course President Jammeh and his cronies may not be hearing from these Gambians, but thousands of them are out there in our streets, work places, ghettos, everywhere- and their anger is brewing everyday.
And the more they watch anti-government demonstrators forcing their blood thirsty dictators to resign or legged it into exile; it will just be a matter of time before they start protesting in the streets of Banjul.
Jammeh may believe in the strength of his military and will of course use lethal force against any anti-government demonstrations (judging from what he said in January 2000 that he will not hesitate to kill 99 per cent of the Gambian population and go to bed). But he should be aware that people power has toppled some of the worst dictators the world has ever seen.
To quote Dr Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov, President Jammeh should know that the people’s desire and instinct to oppose brutality and repression of freedom of thought will never be quenched. Of course, they can be forced to keep quiet at times, when the repression gets worse. But instinct remains, and will always remain and when the circumstances become a little bit favourable, it will raise its head again. The desire to be free is one of the fundamental human desires.

The following is some of the measures a smart person in Jammeh's place would do:

1.PUT A HALT TO ALL THESE FRIVOLOUS,PETTY AND DOWNRIGHT FLIMSY CHARGES THAT ARE CLUTTERING OUR COURTS AND KEEPING CITIZENS LOCKED UP JUST TO SATISFY HIS PARANOIA AND PETTINESS.

2.REPEAL THE DRACONIAN ANTI MEDIA LAWS THAT HIS RUBBER STAMP PARLIAMENT HELP HIM TO PASS.

3.REFRAIN FROM RUNNING IN THE NEXT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

4.DISSOLVE THE GOVT AND HAND OVER TO A NATIONAL UNITY GOVT......

Ofcourse i can go on and on but we all know fools are deaf to the voice of reason.
For this stubborn fool, i do not see a peaceful ending to his saga, because i know for a fact that, as fed up as Gambian people are, it is absolutely guaranteed that Gambians will try something, especially if he happens to "win" and try to impose the same old crap over them for another 5 years.

THIS ARTICLE IS WELL WRITTEN. JAMMEH IS FOLLOWING THE SAME PATTERN OF GADAFI. HIS POSTERS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, USING FORIENGN MESSANARIES FROM CASAMANCE BECAUSE HE TRUST NO GAMBIAN SECURITY. STAGE MAGED SUPPORTERS, AND ABVE ALL A DESPOT.
