Anti-narcotics Agency Discovers Cannabis Near Jammeh's Home Town

(PANA) - An official of Gambia's National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA), Abdoulie Ceesay, has confirmed
the discovery of two cannabis farms near President Yahya Jammeh's home town, according to a report in the Daily Observer newspaper here Monday.The paper quoted Ceesay as saying that the farms were discovered in Jiken Village, in the Foni Bintang Karani District of the Western Region, near Kanilai,
President Jammeh's home town.According to Ceesay, NDEA operatives at Sibanor, acting on a tip-off, raided one of the farms, which belonged to one Essa Kujabi, a native of Jiken Village.
He added that upon arrival at the farm, the officers found the accused watering his cannabis plants, saying that the man was promptly arrested and the cannabis (85 plants in all) uprooted. He is helping the NDEA in its investigations.
“A further search on the same farm led to the discovery of a blue barrel containing 31 big bundles of cannabis and other containers and an empty bag of rice all stuffed with cannabis seeds,” he said.
Ceesay revealed that another cannabis farm, belonging to one Yahya Colley, was also discovered some metres away from Kujabi’s farm.

Its everywhere. Even the law enforcement and other security agents indulge in the practice. Its eradication will require enormous efforts,includi ng support and counselling for abusers.
Cocaine,heroine and other harmful substances are fairly new in the country and their control and eradication should be easy,if the will exist.
But with officials high in government alleged to be involved in this illicit trade,we will need a miracle to succeed.
