Lawyer Lamin Mboge Jailed

LAWYER_MBODGE(JollofNews) – A court in Banjul has this morning sentenced a private Gambian legal practitioner to two and half years in prison with hard labour.

Lawyer Lamin K Mboge was found guilty of making false documents without authority, false swearing and uttering false documents.

Standing before Principal Magistrate Alagbe, LK Mboge made a poignant plea of mitigation.  "I have committed myself to fight for the poor and the powerless. I am in court because of that. I am now begging the court to tamper justice with mercy, “he told the court.

Pursuing his attempt to unveil factors that might contribute in his favor, lawyer Mbodge made it clear that he will be guided by his experience. “I have learnt a lot of lesson by experience not to overdue my intention," he said.

The court also ordered him to pay a fine of D6, 500 to the complainant.

Bax, the reason i have no sympathy for Lamin Mboge is his assault on the Bar association stance against the dictaor and calling on one of his colleagues that had been jailed to beg for Jammeh's mercy only because his own case had just started and he smelled big trouble. That is the story behind Lamin Mboge, incase you missed it.
You see dictators are just like bullys, kissing up to them does not make them spare you. I hope this will be a lesson for the remaing few.
Believe me those Gambian Lawyers that are not kissing up to the dictator and showed no sympathy for Lamin Mboge better be ready for the dictator's newest weapon when he decides to use Lamin Mboge.

Thanks, that you understand what i mean, i have sympathie for anyone conficted/victims under a dictatorship,th at`s why we Africans are in the struggle.

To work with/for dictatorship i think is harder than to stop/to isolated dictator. There are too many risks involve to work with/for them.

I only wish that African/Gambian elites are wiser today than yesterday for tomorrow.

I have no problem in branding those individuals, eve n within the civil service,as well as political appointees, who carry out unlawful acts as supporting the dictatorship...For example, officia ls at the local government ministry who legalise Yaya Jammeh's land grabbing exercise; officials at finance ministry who help facilitate transfer of public monies into private bank accounts without going through the proper procedures; etc ( remembering that any monies received by a public official whilst on public duty should be paid into the nation's coffers)

I am with you on those officials 100%.....They are very much part of the problem...

The main funtion of a civil servant is to be servants of the civilians. It would help if they also protest to isolated the regime but they are not the main target group since they are working under dictatorship but not directly working with, although some may be agents of a dictatorship.

The main target group are those who directly work with dictatorship, like ministers & their secretaries,(es pecially interior/defence/finance),parlim entarians, security forces, ambassad ors etc.

This main target group will not go fishing( a lucrative industry for Africa without dictatorship) and they will get their INTERGRITY back which is the most important tool in their entire arsenal.

For Africans to stop working with/ to isolate dictatorship may be hard but will be an effective & quickess nonviolence protest against dictatorship in Africa.

Jato...I have already commented on the lawyer Mboge issue...This latest post was in reaction to an earlier comment that views all government employees as supporting or working for the dictatorship and therefore deserve no sympathy from anyone...I don't think everyone should be painted with the same brush...

Lawyer Mboge's case,as I understand it,was not with the state but with an aggrieved client of his...I cannot see how the state or Jammeh can be held responsible since it is not political...If Mboge was targetted by the state because of one thing or the other, then he has presented them with the opportunity by engaging in unprofessional and illegal act (falsifying a document )....That's my opinion...

Guys we shouldn't paint ALL government employees with the same brush of " working for the dictatorship "...Some people are career civil servants and have been in the service well before Jammeh came to power...

Surely,we are not suggesting that these civil servants should abandon their jobs, forfeit ALL their benefits and then do what ? Go fishing to feed their families and look after their relatives ?

The business of running the state cannot stop regardless of the nature of the leadership, and that cannot be possible without the civil service..

Let's make a distinction between those who directly serve the dictatorship and those who serve the country with sincerity...It's impossible for all to abandon ship..

on "We cannot afford to waste our scarce highly skilled human resources in this way.." Yes We Can!

"This criminal had it coming from Sifoe."

Pro: "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread".
Working under a dictatorship is not a force. Our African elites have the choice to work with dictatorship or not only to isolate but to against dictatorship in Africa.
