ECOWAS Sends President Obasanjo To Broker Peace Deal In Senegal
Monday, 20 February 2012 01:42
Gen. Obasanjo
President Wade's controversial third term bid threatens to plunge the country into chaos as confrontation continues to prevail between his regime and Senegal
General Olusegun Obasanjo
Since the validation of his candidacy by the Constitutional Council, M23 coalition of opposition parties and civil society groups have been continuously involved into street protests leaving many dead.
According to ledakarois.net, the Americans are instrumental in the appointment of Obasanjo as ECOWAS Special envoy in Senegal. Ledakakarois.net then added that Assistant Secretary Johnnie Carson, who leads the Department of State's Bureau of African Affairs, has decided to take the bull by the horns. Apparently, the Americans, are now envisaging an exit for the 85-year-old President.
However, as we went to press, speculations within the Local media suggest that incumbent president Wade may in fact, not welcome the ECOWAS envoy at the presidential palace.
Lawyer El Hadji Amadou Sall, Wade's spokesman for the electoral campaign, is quoted as saying that mediation is only possible after the Presidential election.

Look at the events in Somalia where the AU is now a protagonist after series of blonders and failures.
Do they (The ECOWAS) forgot that this man was once sent out by the Nigerian Senate when he also want to corruptly remain on Power!
Now they are looking at him as a Saint to be sent to Senegal, What will he do there when he was once having the same idea of remaining on to power ?
WHY NOT TO SEND KOUFOR OF GHANA FOR SUCH?

We actually have very few men in Africa who said, we will stick to our beliefs even if that makes us unelectable. Halifa Salla N Sam Sarr told Jammeh; "Thank you we are not interested in power imposed, We want power from the people." And if we the people give them power, we can take it from them without incidences of constitutional manupulatation. I love the PDOIS brothers n sister
I am not sure about America's initiative here. However, I think ECOWAS needs to intervene and they should have intervened long time ago. They must nonetheless be very careful about being dictated by America.
