Gambian President Yahya Jammeh Sworn-In
Friday, 20 January 2012 14:43
(JollofNews) – Gambian President Yahya Jammeh was Thursday sworn-in for a five-year fourth term of office at a colourful
ceremony held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, packed with thousands of party supporters. The ceremony was attended by Presidents Abdoulaye Wade of neighbouring Senegal, Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone and Mohamed Ould Abdul Aziz of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Taiwanese Premier, along with Namibian Prime Minister and Gabonese Foreign Affairs Minister also graced the occasion.
In his inaugural address, Mr Jammeh noted that the 72 per cent votes cast for him out of a monumental voter turnout of 83 per cent 'under a free, fair and
transparent electoral process' constitutes a decisive and convincing victory by all standards. According to him, never before had Gambians turned out in such record numbers to freely, peacefully and orderly exercise their democratic rights.
Mr Jammeh further indicated that a re-examination of the voting patterns of the last election clearly reveals that the mandate the Gambian people vested on him cuts across regions, districts, ethnicity, gender, age and all other forms of divisions.
"There is no single group that constitutes over 70 per cent of the population. Thus, this is not a victory for me and the APRC alone, but a victory for the patriotic, development-oriented good people of this country,” he said. “It is a victory for solidarity, peace, security, progress and socio-economic development."
Commenting on the theme “Gambians United to Build an Economic Superpower”, Mr Jammeh said the achievements registered over the past 17 years of his regime should convince Gambians that they can attain a lot more for the country if they unite under one umbrella and work diligently and honestly in the best interest of everyone.
“It must be appreciated that in our context, being an economic superpower connotes being a great nation of dignified and self-dependent people guided by sublime values; people who are proud of being Gambians,” he said.
“ This implies further being Gambians that are politically, socially, morally, psychologically and, above all, economically independent and able to live by our principles, sustained by our resources, and setting our own standards and looking up to only the Almighty Allah in whose benevolent hands we place our collective destiny.”
Mr Jammeh promised to revolutionise the productive sectors of the country such as tourism, agriculture and education.

The only thing that can stop me is been bared by Jollofnews but not a subordinate commentator who expresses what he/she believes while I do the same. I was clarifying just for people to know but it means nothing to me. At the moment I really don’t have time to be debating and more over have less interest to the incoming news and this is what is keeping me away. I have read the impersonator making comments on different headings and turning to comment again that is the Fake ML but have no time to respond. He is a lost guy because the attention here is the coming news not making a particular commentator popular without knowing. I know that sensible people like you and others who have been following my comments despite different in opinions reading two lines will know straight away which ML.
As you've said some of our brothers and sisters online here are on for such a service but don't ever mind them, try always to be strong on where you stand.
I have been challenged by many here but when I saw them that, Jally Lalo is here to stay come what may, only Jollof can make me move which I don't expect from our able Demba-Dou Boys !
In the service of mother Africa in General and SeneGamBissau in particular I remain here for
I think that these people are insulting us, because of the fake names we all uses but, that shouldn't be the case, because at the end of the day, we are all Gambians and maybe knew one another in real life, respect and courtesy is also vital. I will try not to engage them in their game of insulting. WASALAMU ALAIKUM WARAHMATOU LAAHI.
We have to respect each others feelings online here, that is when we can be able to term ourselves as true Gambians, Infact this kind of wording I don't think is a Gambian habit.
We hope to sometimes be tollerance to others feelings !
In the service of the truth I remain
