ICC’s Bensouda Calls On Diaspora Gambians To Contribute To National Development
Wednesday, 04 January 2012 01:48
(JollofNews) - The newly appointed chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court,
Fatou Bensouda, has called on Gambians in the Diaspora to contribute meaningfully to the country's development aspirations.Mrs Bensouda made the remarks while delivering the keynote address on behalf of Gambians in the Diaspora at a two-day consultative meeting between the Government of the Gambia and Gambians in the Diaspora at the Kairaba Beach Hotel.
''All over the world, from Latin America to closer home - Cape Verde, Ghana, and Senegal for instance – countries have making strenuous and concerted efforts to harness the potential of their Diasporas, and we are therefore appreciative that the Gambia can now be counted as one of those countries,'' she said.

Taking into consideration the fact that a large percentage of Gambian graduates now live and study abroad, Ms Bensouda lifted a corner of the veil on the areas in which Gambians 'could make a meaningful contribution towards national development.
According to her, Gambians working in international development organisations could provide meaningful input during the shaping of national and sectoral development policies and programs, and help pave the way towards access to the requisite resources – human and financial- for the successful implementation of development objectives.
“ Gambian professors and lecturers can play similar roles as they could also be more directly useful to our budding university by contributing to the development of curricula and study programs, facilitation of student and staff exchanges with universities of international repute, and through sabbaticals come to The Gambia to deliver lectures and share their experiences''.
Mrs Bensouda also said that Gambian surgeons, doctors and nurses practising abroad can be instrumental in boosting the country's health services as they can organise themselves with government support to visit the Gambia and deliver medical and health services.
''In fact, in many of these areas, Gambians are already making their own individual contributions, but perhaps the missing link is the full deployment of government resources for better planning, coordination and execution''.
While balancing responsibilities and setting priorities, she reminded the conference participants that the recent expansion of the mandate of the Ministry of Foreign to underscore the 'Gambians Abroad’ has alerted Diaspora Gambians to the fact that there now exists a formal institution directly charged with the responsibility of their affairs.
In this regard, she expressed hope that there will be a greater space for Diaspora Gambians to be able to partake of and contribute to the country's political developments and agenda.
She then outlined that special consideration must be given to Gambians abroad in relation to housing schemes, job opportunities coupled with special programs geared towards encouraging and facilitating the return and resettlement of any Diaspora Gambians who may wish to return home.

But it can't be the same Guy.
This guy is only a management consultant.
The GG would have no doubt checked the credentials of your 40 million euro investor..complete with bankers written confirmation of the funds.
Wouldn't they? Didn't they?
Simple business protocol that any business fool would do.
I'm off North to Nebraska... to see some "tall ships"....see ya soon.
ship ahoy maties....
Ship ahoy!!!

On such a public announcement...where is there an "executive" of the Canadian company to be named or seen?
Perhaps you can direct me.
Comment:
Radiokangkang, This Toubabu-Man is always angry to hearing any short of development, all what he is trying now is to know this very company you've mentiones their contact details so that he can be able to discouracge them for not to try it because he is a living example, since he has fallout with his former Darling (Arafang Yahya)
So, leave him in the cold weather to keep pinching his Body !
In the Service of the Truth I Remain
Such a multi national company that is purported to be investing in 80 countries would surely be quoted in the Canadian business register or on the stock exchange.

But such an investor would have surveyed the potential of Gambia for quite some time.
So I doubt it is remotely connected to the Disporan "thing" of few days ago.
Mr Ceesay appears to have canvassed the Canadian company. Which is laudable.
However...this company has many rivers to cross to realise the culmination of there ambition....and whats more important..achieving profitability.
The Gambia is a very difficult market.
But with Jammeh's interest...it could be possible.
I trust there are legal and unbreakable contracts in place?
ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!!
Canadian company to begin housing development in the Gambia, (MHL) they poised to invest initially over 40 million Euro in the country.
Alieu Ceesay, the Gambian wh brought the companysaid; his move to lure in the Canadian investors into the country is in response to the call for the citizen in the Diaspora to contibute their quota to nation development.
By the way this Alieu Ceesay is not the one live in Scotland, no!!! no!!! no!!!.
Please do visit observer newspaper for more information. Thank you Alieu Ceesay, and Dr. Momodou Tangara, for your patriotism, Allah will reward you accordingly, Wassalaam.
We want to hear that issue first then development next because i don' t want to live on sky crappers when the ground floor is burning.
Rectification!
Therefore: you have to be straight to all points and serve all Gambians and her people not Jahya Jammeh's Gambia.
Gambians lets put our differences aside and work together for our common interest. Yahya Jammeh didn't own Gambia, Gambia belong to all of us. thre are somethings we should disagree on, but not when it comes to national interest, please guys" lets bygone be bygone". HELLO, LIONKING!.
