20 Senegalese Soldiers Missing In Casamance Attack

According to the Senegalese News Agency, the attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday in Kabeumbeu, a village situated around the city of Sedhiou.
Six other soldiers are reported to have been abducted, and one seriously wounded.

Contacted by Radio Futurs Media (RFM), the Senegalese Army Public Relations Officer Colonel Abdourahmane Kébé, confirmed the attack of a military base, but denied the death of soldiers in the attack.
“There were no Senegalese soldiers killed, only one was wounded,” he said.
RFM went further to reduce the death toll by quoting a military source who indicated that only four soldiers were killed with three other seriously wounded.
The attack comes a time when the Senegalese political barometer is going crescendo with a pre-electoral campaign involving the country’s political parties.
For many analysts, this attack constitutes a signal sent by the rebels so as to put the Casamance on the centre stage of political debate.
