UDP Petitions Gambia’s Electoral Commission

(JollofNews) - The United Democratic Party (UDP) has petitioned the electoral commission over the refusal of state television GRTS to air their recent political rallies.

In a petition to the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, Alh. Mustapha Carayol, the UDP said:

We have noted with dismay that since the beginning of political party rallies, the GRTS has been showing our caravan meetings of our party done before the formal start of the official campaign programme i.e.  Our meetings in Kafuta, Faraba, Pirang, Sukuta and Gunjur.

We are now on the eighth day of the campaign and GRTS has still not shown a single UDP programme of the current campaign. To the contrary, these meetings have been repeated ad nauseam.

There is absolutely no excuse not to show our meetings and this action is tantamount to a deliberate attempt to stifle the activities of the UDP. It is for this reason that we bring this action of the GRTS to your attention and we expect that as the arbiter of these elections you will make the GRTS adopt equity and even handedness as required of them by law.

We count on your immediate action to remedy this undesirable situation which is the subject of conversation in the country and overseas.

Meanwhile, the UDP has also expressed concern to the IEC about the misuse of state institution by the ruling APRC.

In a letter to the electoral commission, the UDP said:

We have noted along the Kombo Coastal road, Sanyang area in particular some army trucks carrying passengers wearing APRC tee shirts. In situations like this the military must be seen to be neutral since they are the national army of everybody.

We bring this to your attention with the hope that you could resolve these issues.

No passports for those refusing to vote

"I will tell IEC to print pictures of all those who registered and fail to vote, we will deal with them. If you register and fail to vote even a passport will not be issued to you in the coming five years.”

Yes folks this is the penis that you want running the country for another 5 years. Not a chance folks!!! Enough is enough!!!

GRTS have always been playing these hypocrecy long time ago now..instead of being there for all politicians they only produce whatever pleases Jammeh and APRC..as for our oppositions, they are bunch of hungry people who refused to unite together against this brutal killer Jammeh..now that you have failed Gambians and we r begining to lose the appetite of respect and honour we have for you..so no big surprise if Jammeh was relected to another 5 years in power..I now have no doubt that Politicians are bunch of liars and hypocretes..As for yaya Jammeh your days are numbered if u continue brutalising and killing Gambians on no ground, imprisoning them, making them banished in exile from their beloved families..May Allah help the People of The Gambia..May he the most merciful have mercy on Gambiabs and shower his endless peace on our election day...May God bless you all...Shamw oN you opposition leaders for failing us Gambians and for disagreeing to come together against Jammeh..

Its a shame to always attack PDOIS and making sweeping statements against them? What is your proof that comments/opinions are PDOIS militants and/or from PDOIS bureau/central committee?

These are the main causes of divided opposition and dis-unity; mainly from UDP militancy on 2% poll, "pygmies", "satanic", "tribalism" etc?

If you want us to focus on common goal for ALL OPPONENTS; best militancy/campaign strategy is about national cause, national unity, partnership & solidarity; rather than discriminating other citizens; held nation to ransom on partisan agenda and demanding other opposition parties to be absorbed into UDP?

Why is that anythin written about UDP on this page is received with negative comments. I know very well that such comments only come from PDOIS supporters but what have they against the UDP? For God sake we should all be united against the dictator rather than chastizin Lawyer darboe an his party. If its mockery, then what is special about PDOIS? after two decades in gambian politics you cant still pull 2% in election so what da hell do u think that UDP shud follow instead of minority joinin the majority.

I hope this Petition was made a week ago and not today when it is the last day of campaigning, or is the UDP led Alliance looking for reasons to complaine about after the election.
