Nanama Keita's Surety Released On Bail

(JollofNews) - Saikou Ceesay, a journalist working with the Daily News, was released today from police custody after
he was arrested on Monday in connection with the ongoing case of the former Daily Observer Sports editor Nanama Keita, who jumped bai
l and now lives in the United States of America.The Daily News reporter provided surety to Nanama Keita, who was standing trial for ‘giving false information’ to a public officer. This was after keita petitioned the office of the presiddenyt protesting his wrongful termination from the observer company.
In a rare move of solidarity, family members joined by a good number of Gambian local journalists stormed the Police Headquarters in Banjul this morning in order to know what would Saikou Ceesay’s faith. Lawyer Neneh Cham deployed tremendous efforts to make sure that he can be granted bail.
He was later granted bail against 2 sureties provided by the Gambia Press Union’s First Vice-President Baboucarr Ceesay and a family member.
He will appear on Wednesday 2nd November, 2011 before the Banjul Magistrates' Court.
