Capi Eyes GAA Presidency At Next Congress

(Gamsports) - The Gambia’s athletics governing body, Gambia Athletics Association, GAA, goes to congress on November 5 with the current and veteran Secretary General
Dodou Capi Joof, aiming one step ahead, the presidency. Dodou Joof, a former athlete himself, has been associated with athletics in the Gambia for over two decades now and have also served in regional bodies.
He told this reporter in an exclusive interview that “this time around he will run for the position of president in order to regulate and correct some of the shortcomings that the GAA had been experiencing in the past years. I am to going vacate the position of the Secretary General and assign it to a qualified person and take over the leadership of the Association so that I would be able ro work effectively to raise fund for the Association”.
Capi said the GAA must be financially sound if his management’s objective of sending a lot of athletes to Centers of Excellences are to be realized.’’ This is necessary if are to continue registering successes in international events;”he stated. He concluded that the congress would be followed by intense preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
