Senegal and Mauritania End Airlines Dispute
Friday, 14 October 2011 01:57
(AFP) – Air traffic between Senegal and Mauritania has resumed after a three-month pause, ending a row over onward
flights, Senegalese sources said.A Senegal Airlines flight took off from Dakar for Nouakchott in mid-afternoon Thursday, an airport official said. There was no immediate information on possible flights in the opposite direction by Mauritania Airlines.

The bilateral row, which prevented all flights between the two countries since early July was based on a "misunderstanding," said Senegal's director general for transport Cheikh Tidiane Senghor.
In July, Senegal Airlines was barred from flying to Nouakchott in retaliation for Senegal's refusal to allow the Mauritanian flag carrier to fly African routes from Dakar.
But the two countries signed an accord on October 4 to end the dispute, Tidiane Senghor said.
Mauritania Airlines replaced Air Mauritania, an airline owned by the state and Mauritanian private interests that went bankrupt in early 2008, then Mauritania Airways, which went out of business last December.
Senegal Airlines, owned by the state and private Senegalese interests, began commercial flights in late January, over 18 months after the collapse of Air Senegal International (ASI), which belonged to Senegal and Royal Air Maroc.

Well said my brother the bitter past experience said it all were their was no winner. Our governments should always encourage dialogue and negotiation not confrontation or aggressiveness. The two common things we have in us is being human-beings and Africans, and region and colour is for identification.
