Gambia to Celebrate Day at Akwaaba 2011

FATOU_MASS_JOBE-NJIEAs Lufthansa, others rally support
(Tribune) - The Gambia has step up preparations to celebrate its day at this year’s Akwaaba African Travel Market (AfTM).
The event, which aims at showcasing newer areas of investment and diversification in its tourism products and destination to potential buyers and sellers at the AFTM, will be powered by the Gambian Ministry of Tourism on Thursday, October 20, 2011.
The special three-hour event at Akwaaba will see the Minister of Tourism of The Gambia, Fatou Mas Jobe, making a presentation to culture, entertainment and tourism stakeholders on the strength of the Gambian brand as a premium destination for Nigerians.FATOU_MASS_JOBE-NJIE
Last year, the Ghanaian Minister of Tourism, along with former Lagos State governnor, Chief Bola Tinubu, were hosted to a well attended Ghana Day at Akwaaba.
However, sponsors of this year’s edition of Akwaaba include a leading European carrier with worldwide connections; Lufthansa Airlines joined the NCAA, Southern Sun Hotels, Ethiopian Airlines and South African Airlines as supporters and sponsors of Akwaaba.
AfTM is the only international expo in West Africa listed by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) a partner event of African Travel Association (ATA)in the region and the only member of  International Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ITTFA) in West Africa. AfTM seeks to make travelling a pleasurably seamless experience in Africa.
The change of date is in anticipation of a possible restriction of movement and considering the large number of foreigners expected at this year’s event, the organisers have moved the date two days earlier.
This comes as more countries and international firms register to participate. Zimbabwe, Chad and Namibia will be first timers at this year’s event along with the re-entry of representatives from USA.
Also leading airlines and international hotel chains from all over Africa will be attending the only international fair in West Africa.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agents (NANTA) is partnering with the organisers of Akwaaba to make the event a success.
NANTA is the biggest travel association in Nigeria, and the umbrella body of travel agencies will be bringing its members to the event as both sellers and buyers. According to the national publicity secretary of NANTA, Mrs Tinuke Nwakohu, “NANTA will participate in Akwaaba, as the event provides a local opportunity for players in the travel trade to network and work together. Travel markets are the lifeblood of travel business globally and cannot be different in Nigeria.”
Mr Ikechi Uko, representing the organisers, said “having NANTA as a partner completes the circle, as our event has partnerships with global associations and having a credible national group like NANTA completes the circle for us. We are excited to tap on their goodwill and expertise.”

I am a whiteman. I am damned if I do and damned if I don't.

That is my cross and I will bare it well.

We British are a sarcastic bunch.

They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit???

I do not deny your accusation.

Please forgive me my trespasses as I forgive yours.

I only mean well.

I have no doubt that our intrinsic humour carried us through 5 million dead in the first world war and 3 million in the second.

My offer to approach the British government on behalf of the West Africa regiment...Burma and the Japanese..still stands.

Put down the details and your grievance and e/mail it to Jollof...they will send it on.

I would support this without question.

I will undoubtably get an official response...and will mail it to you.

I still think you are cheeky tho...

In anycase I do not deny your efforts on all the aforementioned.

What I am saying is you lack of intervention on indiduals directing very unbearable mouth full of insults directed at Jammeh on this forum. What I am saying is simple...there should be no room for personal insults in against anyone.

I really expect you of all the people to intervene whenever ppl are engaging into foul languages in debates.

Insults doesnt breed healthy debating environment.

Thats much better.

But wait...view my support online for Mr Jammeh..over narcotics.

View my support for Minister Gomez over Chief Manneh.

..and over Iran, Libya and the recent loans from Venezula and The Arab Bank...and PAGE.

Whatever the Gambian gov. have asked me to do..these last 10 years I have done and never asked one penny for expenses.

My only constructive criticism centers around human rights for Gambian's

I do not think that is unreasonable or that I am acting without maturity.

Even recently..a high ranking member of the APRC commented that I remain a true friend of The Gambia.
I continue to introduce British investors.

In my dealings with the editors online...I have always said the APRC should be truly represented.

Let them deny this?

I was against Balangba...to my great cost.

Gambian's are very rational and progressive people with concerns.

Mike I am here expressing my views just as anybody will do...Views express are solely mine and mine alone; I am a free man.

However, what saddens me is your share double standards. You out of all the ppl here have been witnessing unwarranted personal insults for months against Jammeh here over and over...did you ever ask anyone to stop it? No you didnt.

The forum will attest to the fact that I made an earlier plea that we should refrain from insults yet you out of all ppl remain muted & let it continue against Jammeh

As Bax said, we can debate but Jammeh should be given his dues. Whoever holds grievances against UK doesn't go about pounding barrage of insults at HM or Cameroon on FT, Independent or Express...therefore why should you entertain such & be muted on assailants of barrage of Insults on Jammeh?

Nonetheless, I respect Jollof News for acting proactive, fairly and decisively under the circumstance.

"All that glitters is not gold"

I was pleased to be part of a constructive dialogue with several major hotels in Abuja.

I suggested that Nigeria has enormous potential for tourism...but expressed the visa requirements presented a significant barrier.

That Nigeria would do well to commence dialogue with The Gambia...to witness the success of what can be achieved by following Gambia's example.

I am pleased the major european airlines with concession in Nigeria, such as Lufthansa....are sponsoring this meeting.

Others to be considered are KLM, Virgin Atlantic...and Nigeria's own Air Afrika.

Another uncapacited venue is Ghana.

The Gambia could take the lead here.

I think most of us who frequent this site to express our views...are still realing at your unmittigated attack abusive against Malick.

I have never viewed such a filthy mouth or such an extraudinary capacity for foul and abusive language.

You should wash your mouth with hot soapy water.

Such language is not fit for adults let alone children.

You come here..bragging that you know the mind of your President and government.

The "true" APRC that I know...are nothing like you.

Comprende?

Wonderful, Very very welcoming certainly a positive step once again in the right direction.

Oh woow I am so inlove with Fatou Mass! You see this are the kind of initiatives that makes huge differences in the lives of ordinary Gambians that Bax fails to see or refuses to aknowledge!

Our folks across the country will be proud. Forward Gambia!
