Slain Gambian Journalist Remembered

(JollofNews) – Friends and family members of the late Gambian journalist Deyda Hydara, remembered him Friday with a recitation of the holy
Qur'an at a ceremony at Bakau Kachically resident. Hydara, co-founder of The Point was brutally murdered by on 16 December 2004 by unknown assailants who remained at large.
His widow, Maria Hydara in a tearful and sombre statement described her husband as a committed journalist who dedicated his life to the promotion of liberty and
press freedom.She acknowledged that since her late husband's assassination, a good number of Gambian journalists have taken the road of exile.
Speaking to Jollofnews immediately after the Quranic recitation, Pap Saine, who with Deyda Hydara co-founded The Point twenty years ago, said Deyda Hydara has done a lot for the development of the country by strengthening its democratic system.
Saine, the paper's managing director said the greatness of Mr Hydara's legacy is far from diminishing.
Acting editor-in-chief of The Point, Baboucarr Senghore, speaking on the recent legal action filed by Hydara's son at the ECOWAS court, said ''as far as we cannot make any headway into the investigation, it is justifiable to take such a move."

B4 Jammeh, Gambians do not kill each other in the street like this. What changed? Why do we have to kill someone cus we disagree. As far as i know, we always disagree. The Ndingos don't like to skeak wolof n vise versa. Caught in between are the Njajos, pols, jolas, serer, serahules, korinkas, etc. But there was never any violence between the tribes.
We have joking relationships. Jolas n the serers, kiang-kas Vs baddibu-kas, etc. But no fightings or killings.
Now, i ask u; are u going to kill me cus i disagree with u? I know i will not kill anyone 4 disagreeing with me. But who took AK-47 from the GNA armory to kill Hydara n why? Are u that extreme? Gambians, Jammeh will be gone 1 day. Lets stop roaming around with AK-47 to kill 4 Jammeh. No christain will do this 4 Jammeh. It is a sin.
