(JollofNews) - President Yahya Jammeh has urged his supporters in Basse and around the country to respect the opposition throughout the campaign period.

Speaking in Upper River Region, Jammeh said he is very keen to see a peaceful free and fair elections and therefore his supporters must try and respect the opponents just as the opposition should in turn respect others who does not support them.

"I do not want a repeat of 2001 so let us avoid anything that might ignite violence Jammeh said. This is the latest call for a peaceful campaign by Jammeh whose tone and general rhetorics have so far impressed many people watching the election process."I think Jammeh is very much a changed man now. He is very conciliatory now. His speeches are far better now than before,'' an elderly man told Jollofnews in Basse.

Another one who spoke to Jollofnews in Badibu said Jammeh has taken things very easily and even the opposition cannot complain of harassment. They have been given total freedom to say what they like and go where they want.

An opposition leader has however cautioned that though Jammeh is doing the right things so far, "Let s wait and see".

No passports for those refusing to vote

"I will tell IEC to print pictures of all those who registered and fail to vote, we will deal with them. If you register and fail to vote even a passport will not be issued to you in the coming five years.”

Yes folks this is the penis that you want running the country for another 5 years. Not a chance folks!!! Enough is enough!!!

A conciliatory tone preaching peace in the run up to a presidential election only to be followed by a reversion to high handed dictatorial tendencies....What's the point?

I have come to RESPECT this man of a president, he KNOWS how to play hardball and when to be subtle. Gambians should not fall for this man's apparent epiphany....remember a leopard cannot shed its spots, "olim dictatori, dictatoris semper" (once a dictator, always a dictator)

How about:
1-Asking him to go on exile
2-Offering him immunity, protec tion-if he is willing to handover power and lie low.
3-offer the families that lost their love ones/property compensation, help etc and ask them to forgive.
4-Create a government of national unity-that will put in place structures that limit term times, presidential powers etc.
Otherwise-am only worried that killing him or starting an uprising will lead to more lost lives, property and disgruntle people ready to start another fight.
Then it becomes a vicious cycle.

Is it 'Taboo' to comment on Freedom Radio in this forum ? Jollofnews editors seem to think so.... So I won't be commenting on what they produce about the 'confession'. Raises a lot of questions....

I think that when most of the people with whom you did the coup de'tat have been exiled, killed or forced out of government, as the only person left, Jammeh should consider leaving too, especially when he accused Jawara of staying too long in power.
I am not sure Gambians have the patience of another 5 years of dictatorship.
