Senegalese In Detention For 14 Years Without Trial

ASSAN_MARTINS(JollofNews) – Gambian human rights lawyer, Assan Martins has denounced the detention of a Senegalese national, Abdourahman Baldeh for 14 years without trial.

He said it is some of the reasons why he joined the newly formed political group, United Front.

"It is things like the plight of one prison inmate called Abdourahman Baldeh, who is detained for 14 years without facing any court of law...we need to do something,''  he told delegates on Thursday at United Front convention.

“I have made constant efforts for this man to be released but I was never listened to. I intend to campaign until his release. I will never relent and abandon the values of human rights and human dignity,” vowed one of the country’s rare lawyers who have shown determination to fight against human rights abuses.

He went further to say that he has seen no justification for Abdourahman Baldeh’s detention “No individual can ignore to speak about such violation of human dignity”.

If you people love Jammeh and Gambia as you claim, you should tell this man to GO NOW, because 17 years is really ENOUGH!

In these times when people are so impatient for change, trying to hang on for another 5 year term is only asking for unrest, especially given the fact that this man has gone against all the principles that he proclaimed at the time of his overthrow of the former regime.

Jainaba, this is exactly what does people used to say, we're not afraid to go ahead with whatever.

If you thing that we're afraid of problems, then keep on calling for it, we'll witness the outcomes sooner than later, you as a woman calling for unrest is really disapponiting but, nevertheless,ev erybody will face his/or her faith.

IAM NOT AFRAID MY SISTER, I LOVE MY PEOPLE AND MY COUNTRY.

Gaddafi and his sons were beating their chests and claiming that Libya was different from Tunisia and Egypt. The ironic thing is that they were right in a way, for the Libyans did not stop at removing Gaddafi but they also put a bullet in his head!

The fear-mongering from Jammeh and his henchmen is not working anymore and they know it. Jammeh can feel the tide turning against him, thus we see him eating his own words by hitting the campaign trail to "thank" his supporters!

The families of Chief Manneh, Daba Marenah, Sgt,Alpha Bah and countless others will not wait forever. I have a feeling that justice WILL be brought to Yaya, not the other way round.

Jainaba, atlease you should support a political party or independent lead by Hamat Bah,or remain neutralbut, you cant be advocating civil unrest on your own, without being through a process and felt foul play, all demostrations should have a genuine reasons to actions, not that there is a level playing field but, i'll do it my way or the highway, you being there and you have learned nothing, this time around you'll be committing a suicide. TAKE MY ADVICE MY SISTER, FOR I CARE FOR YOU.

If Jammeh was doing all that he is doing without killing and detaining Gambians, i doubt that there would have been many Gambians who would pay any attention to his clownish antics.

The fact that this man not only threatens us openly with death, but covertly carries out those threats has aroused the ire of most straight-thinking Gambians today. Pride comes before a fall (Bible), and Jammeh's arrogance will prove to be his downfall.

Gambians are at the TALKING stage for now, but woe be unto him who tries to defend the status quo when the ACTING stage is reached.

Paulo....

The presence of fear on the population doesn't necessarily mean that's why people vote for Jammeh... That is not what I meant....Do people dare to criticise the government or Jammeh for his unwarranted actions ? Most families don't even want to talk about government when their loved ones call from abroad... Everyone believes that phones are tapped... No one dares to petition the president for fear of being sent to jail or prosecuted... No one dares question the source of Jammeh's wealth ..... The threat of killing 10000 Gambians, made by Jammeh,is still hanging over the heads of many....National newspapers do not dare carry articles critical of Yaya Jammeh... Even Foroyaa is censoring itself....People vote for different reasons but their fear in the country....
