Hamat Bah Resigns From NRP

UNITED_FRONT_FLAGBEARE_Hamat_Bah(JollofNews) - Hamat Bah has announced his immediate resignation as leader of the National Reconciliation Party.
Mr Bah’s resignation from the NRP is in accordance with section 104 (2) of the elections act which will enable him to contest the coming elections on an independent ticket.

Mr Bah who was earlier last week elected leader of the new opposition alliance, United Front, is expected to file his nomination papers tomorrow at the electoral commission headquarters in Kanifing.

Hamat Bah, a former school teacher and hotel worker started his political career in 1996 when he led the NRP in the country’s first multi-party elections after the ban on political activities was lifted.  In January 2001, he was elected National Assembly member for Upper Saloum.

In 2001, he contested the presidential election as NRP candidate winning 7.8 per cent of the votes.

In January 2005, Mr Bah's NRP joined four other opposition parties to form the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD).Soon after NADD was registered as a political party the Supreme Court of the Gambia revoked Mr Bah’s seat in the country’s National Assembly, which he won in 2002, for belonging to two parties at the same time.

In a by-election held in June 2005, Mr Bah lost his seat to Sainey Mbaye of the ruling APRC party.

In 2006, Mr Bah joined an alliance with the UDP in presidential elections which were again won by President Jammeh.

In January 2007, he contested his old parliamentary seat but was again defeated by Sainey Mbaye.

The best thing that has ever happened to Yaya Jammeh is Hallifa Sallah. He campaigned for him to promote the referendum with the term limit temoved. Didn't tell the people that the term limit has been removed. Most people voted think they were voting primarily for the term limit.

Then there comes NADD, we all know how that ended. Nowt ended. Now there must be a convention to select the Flag Bearer. He promised it is going to abig deal. CNN,BBC, etc will be there to cover for the whole world to see. The convention happened most Gambians in the Gambia did not know about it, much more Senegal. Now the winner has to resign and run as independent. So what if they happened (they wouldn't get 2% of the votes)to win? Will Hallifa decide who becomes president, may be he would create a prime ministerial post for himself. Just thinking out loud fellow citizens, just thinking out loud.

Halifa Sallah will never resign from PDOIS to led a coalition and stand as a independent candidate. Hamat made a big mistake and he wil regret it in the near future.

Radiokangkang ....Do you want to know my rating of APRC on democracy: Rule by popular consent ? I would give you guys an E.... Close, very close to F.... On Infrastructural development, giv en the time you had in office, and the fact that most of the projects were initiated during the TRANSITION PERIOD (AFPRC),I will give you a C....

Explanation: I didn't give you an F because you go to elections and win, despite the unfair system ....but you rule as you wish.... butchering the constitution,as and when it suits you or completely ignoring it,when you feel like.....

The schools, roads,a irport terminal are all projects of the Transition Period.... Under Jammeh,Yes, but not APRC....

Jammeh goes around telling people of Jarra that Foni will never allow UDP to hold their congress there...Democracy!!! You are joking... That's 'Sembocracy' and it's a DISGRACE in a republic ...

Lamin J Darbo is absolutely spot on. To me the real hypocretes in the Gambia's political landscape are the Stalinist PDOIS. This is really why they remain stuck in the doldrums.

Well I'm sorry, but sections 60(1) & 60(2) are part of the constitution and they should be treated as such. His claim would have been right if that wasn't the case....

Let him direct his energy where it will benefit him.... The United Front is here to fight the 2011 elections...Good luck to both camps....Put up a good fight....
