Waa Juwara Blames Darboe For Opposition Failure

Lamin W Juwara
(JollofNews) - Veteran Gambian politician, Lamin Waa Juwara has blamed the blind ambition of UDP Lawyer Darboe for the persistent failure of the opposition to unseat Gambian president Yahya Jammeh.

Mr. Lamin Waa Juwara, Governor Lower River Region, told PANA on Friday that Gambia United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Ousainou Darboe, was to blame for the opposition’s failure to defeat President Jammeh at the polls.

Juwaraa, founder of the opposition National Democratic Action Movement, who is now with the government, said Darboe did not want any other person to lead his party at the polls adding that although he had failed three times already, he still wanted to lead his party or the alliance founded by all parties.

This, he said, meant that Darboe was holding Gambians in contempt.

Juwara, a former bitter critic of the government who was detained by the Jammeh regime before switching camp to the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC), said the country’s human rights records were improving.

“If Gambia’s human rights records were not improving, you would not have been here asking me questions on Gambia human rights record,” he said.

“Nobody can tell you that Gambia's human rights records are still as bad as they were in the past. Those that are behind bars are there for their own wrong-doing, because they were tarnishing the country's image”, he said.

He called on Gambians to support President Jammeh in promoting and protecting human rights, adding that the Gambian leader had taken steps to promote and protect human rights.

Thanks what I mean is people already knew the one they going in for is weak but they say is an opportunity for them to get rid of their dictator. They again knew that these weaknesses are a threat. They again want to turn the threat to strength that he has the right to lead because his party is the biggest but unable to win for 3 consecutive elections. Is it not what most are commenting that one who can cling on to power for 20yrs which is just a party, what happens if he becomes a president? So this is already a threat but they want to use it as strength and would it work?

ML

PEOPLE LOOK AT WEAKENESSES AND TURN IT TO OPPORTUNITIES AND LOOK AT THREATS AND WANT TO TURN IT TO STRENGTHS

I'm not sure I'm the best to interpret this. But I suppose it should have been "People look at weaknesses and turn them to strength, and look at threats and turn them to opportunities."

Thanks Mr. Patriotic:
That is the best way Iam also seeing O.N.D all the time, and if he succeeds to leade Gambia as president, it will not be easy to remove him from that coolest House in Quadrangle !
And he is dreaming for that it will Happen sooner or later.
We wish him all the best but such victories always comes with fidelity for those you are trying to lead first.
God judge us through our intentions.

Lalo Kebba,
I've talked to Darboe several times, observing him very close as he carried himself. For almost twenty years has this man been thinking that he's the Mahdi for The Gambia, or some hallowed figure-head too sacrosanct to dispense with. I call it a vaunt of ego - simple!

Unfortunately, Gambia's intellecual reservoir has been too poorly structured to engender an apt alternative. No wonder, those UDP appratcchics, with such narrow vista see Ousainou as some political sage.

Rather, Ousainou has been more successful in demonstrating his hunger for power than achieving the gist of his party's bent. I give you Senegal's Wade as a prototypical example. Wade was somewhat greedy for power before becoming president. Hasn't he proven my point by holding unto power or irreverently preparing his son for the poise?

Well Said Toubaabu-Man:

But it could have being better if you were saying this during the time you're having a good relationship with Arafang Yahya, not now when you divorce each other from your married in the Heaven !

I think Waa...is probably right.

For sure...and for many years...Waa stood alone against the excesses of this APRC regime...and suffered.

The Gambia's human rights record is improving...but only very slowly.

It would appear that all governments have been left behind by some 10 to 15 years.

The "Global village" people have moved on to a better international cohesive orchestra of progressive aspiration.

In Gambia Today...things are more settled, but these APRC are still very reluctant to engage any form of progressive change to greater freedom and democratic dispensation.

President Jammeh...needs to now aspire to a better legacy of freedom and rights for fellow Gambians.

People around the world are joined in a common wish...to oppose any form of government that is "selective" or suppressive to the greater human aspiration of parity and equality.

Quoting Mr. Patriotic African:
How long has Darboe been clinging unto UDP leadership which is just at party-level? What does this tell every Gambian how power-hungry he is and how long he'd labour to cling unto power should he become president?

Comment:
Well Said Patriotic, I kept telling people here that O.N.D is not the right person for Kambi Bolong but venturing onto such issues, people do think that you hate the man but in reality, there will come a day when they will all know the truth, one of this Ousaine Darboe's sisters is a closer friend of mine and she knows the man more than any of her family members, Iam not challenging Numukunda for personal issues but through one of his family members..
He need to give chance to others if at all he is having the Gambia at Heart !
