$1bn cocaine case adjourned again

Drug_gangBy Abdoulie John
The fate of 12 accused persons in Gambia’s $1 billion cocaine case still hangs on the balance as a battle of procedure rages.
For the umpteenth time, the hearing could not proceed on August 31, 2010.
Tuesday's hearing, which was supposed to be centered on plea-taking, saw the prosecution tabling before Principal Magistrate Hilary Abeke 12 new counts...that were not sealed under the authority of the registrar.Drug_gang
When the case came up for hearing, State counsel M. Abdullahi told the court the prosecution's intention to amend the charge leveled against the 12 foreigners linked with one of the biggest drug seizures in recent times. The Deputy Director of Public Prosecution (DDPP) also seized the opportunity to indicate that the delay is caused by administrative problems that are related to the handing over process between the incoming registrar and his predecessor.
"The court can adjourn the case to enable the prosecution to file their new charges," he noted while stating that he had already been informed by the new registrar that the handing over will be done on September 2, 2010.
One of the defense counsels, Emmanual Chime, said, as he rose from his seat:"I have no objection for the prosecution's application. It is left to the court's discretion to give a favorable consideration or not."
Far from taking the same stance, the second defense counsel, Lamin S. Camara, denounced the continuing delay in justice delivery as the new charges will inexorably render null and void the previous sheet. "Justice delayed is justice denied," he said.
The principal magistrate eventually took the decision to grant the request for adjournment for the accused persons to take their plea.
The next hearing will resume on September 9, 2010...

Bajaw, here is another one in wollof. Sacha Junjung yombana, wai fokoi dencha jaffenaa. Meaning: It is easy to steal a drumm, but where to hide it is the major problem.

These ones, he cannot slaughter and go to sleep and sleep well. That is for sure!

Jatto, you got it right! Only this time the ‘jolo’ has taken a big bite, sucking the blood dry to satisfaction. God operates in mysterious ways, beyond human apprehensions, & can choose to deal with the corrupt & oppressive any how & in small ‘trivial ways’ sometimes, just to show that power really only belongs to Him in His Magnanimity; & help start a process to finish the tyrants up.

If there is such a thing that will make Yaya Jammeh sleepless, here is one. What makes this case even more interesting is the international dimension of it.

Bajaw, this is what the mandinkas call "FOTOTO JOLO, ETAA ABAYILA, ETAA ATULAJE".

With yaya’s godly status to one like Ensa Badjie, Bunn Sanneh & co, would they have ever contemplated to indulge in drugs for selfish gains in first place/even tell any that they do so for yaya jammeh; at his consent??? Hence they also averted to ways of making things within, for themselves too, as it will be foolish to do so for selfish yaya alone, when they too needed to gain for indulgence.

cont from below

What do Gambians expect when a drug baron of General Bubo Natchuto’s calibre stayed in Gambia for just a day; NOT the months he had at courtesy of our mad professor, an equally counterpart baron of same calibre, at expense of poor Gambian tax payers & people? ALL in their sense know the people charged here are foreigners brought in, to do some others’ dirty works so as to keep lid on the business. Because if local Gambians where employed, they will divulge the information to public notice faster than it took to discover. All should ask themselves - how comes a haul of this magnitude managed to slip the ‘alert’ security checks IF yaya’s NOT involved as he pretends to be??

Mandinka say “Jaloo singho beh lorring foorangho minkang, woh beka jeh”!! (Translates as –the drum stick is never found, when the stick is trampled under the feet of the very drummer who joins others in search of the same stick).
