1.2 tonnes of cannabis seized in Gambia

Benedict_Jammeh2Gambian police Wednesday said it seized 1.2 tonnes of cannabis and arrested six people, the AFP reports.
The culprits, among them three Senegalese nationals, were arrested in a raid on an unnamed village in Foni, following a tipoff.Benedict_Jammeh2
"The seizure took place last night following a tip off by villagers that some Senegalese and some Gambian nationals were engaged in illegal drug trafficking," said Ibrahima Camara of the National Drug Enforcement Agency.
Recent developments in Gambia suggest the country is increasingly becoming synonymous with drug trafficking.
Apart from a huge haul of cocaine seizure announced last June, a number of former senior police and anti-drug officers are facing trial for involvement in the illegal trade.
President Yahya Jammeh’s declaration of ‘war on drugs’ has apparently provoked a peculiar modus operandi by some local drug dealers as indicated in a most recent announcement by the government. A senior member of a local drug baron offered to help the president in his campaign against the drug menace, only to be arrested thereafter on suspicion of involvement in the trade, himself.

For chicken Joe,he will be like being in heaven if he can lay hands on that Cocain because he will be sniffing, inject ing himself and selling till he find himself in US prison.Yes, you are all JONKEYS!

Just where’s the justice when the bigger fishes like yaya jammeh & cohorts named & linked to resent cocaine hauls, remain to condone in their illegal peddling un-abated? Yaya’s been named by Ensa Badjie where Ensa’s facing the kangaroo courts whereas the same courts CAN’T investigated yaya but instead STAND to defend in futile efforts to cleanse his soiled image. Keep up the efforts Ben; in your job of selective justice beyond your persona control.

While we appreciate and applaud the anti drug enforcement efforts of our security services we urge our courts to please not be overzealous and ridiculous in their sentencing of drug convicts!

The case of that French national who was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment and a 5 million dalasis fine for 2 grams of cannabis makes a mockery of our justice system! Remember we have our nationals scattered all over the globe and we should not do to others what we would not want done to our own citizens in foreign lands. Please guys play fair and don't wreck the good name of Gambia.

Very disappointing that the former boss and team have betrayed the nation and worked for their pockets. Well done Ben, all eyes on you and keep your good reputation you are known for.

The Gambia is now known as a drug hub for international syndicates thanks to the corrupt officials in Banjul. The day Gambians will regret the use of drugs will come and it will be too late then to seek any positive solution. How can a small Gambia lost it reputation on the international level withing a short span of time? How can all these activities take place without being notice? We have all seen how drug helps to fuel wars in Sierra Leone, Liberia and too many African countries and yet Gambian officials have never learn a thing. The day will come when we shall all regret this....
