12 suspected drug traffickers arraigned in Gambia
Wednesday, 09 June 2010 19:46
12 foreign nationals arrested for involvement in a ring of drug trafficking were today, Wednesday 9 June, brought
before a court in Banjul, charged with drug possession and trafficking. The suspects, who include Dutch, Venezuelans, Nigerians and nationals from a number of other countries, were reported to have been detained since last May, following which investigations led to the seizure of the significant quantity of the prohibited substance on Tuesday.

Latest reports say an initial amount of about three kilograms of cocaine was discovered before the Gambian authorities requested the help of British agents, leading to Tuesday’s discovery of about two tons of the substance. The drugs were found in a makeshift wall comprising of bricks, amounting to more than two tons, in 85 sacks. Some 60 empty sacks were also found in the place, suggesting that some of the drugs might have been distributed already from there.
According to the BBC correspondent presently in Banjul, the men were charged in relation to the 3kg of the substance initially seized. He described them as looking “disheveled, confused and scared.”And, accordingly, there was no lawyer in court today to represent them.
An AP report cited a statement by a UK official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, that as part of the Gambia-UK partnership in the investigation, “we have forensically analyzed a number of positions that have been suspicious, and we have assisted Gambian authorities.” “Eventually,” he added, “this bundle was discovered,"
The National Drug Enforcement Agency Public Relations Officer, Abdoulie Ceesay, told AP that part of the drugs was found on an island off the Gambian coast, with the rest been found in the village of Bonto.
In addition to the more than $1bn worth of prohibited substance, the authorities also found a cash amount of $250,000 as well as a number of loaded firearms.

No problem Tomaa2
Hell, you are so RIGHT about that. The English and Germans are already in line acknowledging and praising the efforts of the Jammeh government; and financial, technical and moral support has already kicked off. This, Bajaw, is what has confused and frustrated you all. Thus the usual empty talk that takes you no where. You cannot stand yet another boost for the Jammeh adminstration, can you? Guess what? As I have been telling you all along, you will remain in shame and disspointments again and again and as usual.
ATTENTION: This is JIM, just responding to the same message you have now posted on 3 differnt topics.
You, the so-called ‘ALL & NO-NAME’, will soon shut up for the net's closing in. With recent developments, one can just hope for better for Gambia. The magnitude of the ‘coke-burst’ has drawn the world's attention & will see to it that drug peddling is contained in our region. This will be some inconvenient truth for MOST, if not ALL barons in operation in Gambia & beyond. There will be no impersonations/perceptions /lies on others; in that, all involved will be uncovered & contained in the process. There will be right to prosecution though, for the peddlers & for murders, kidnappings/disappearances, corrupt embezzlements, nepotism depositions, etc, for whoever engaged/engages in such & like despicable acts; till then.
The funny thing is that they complain online..u never her them associate with any political party..... they have no hope thats y they make a lot of noise, cause they are all fustrated,,, Bajaw, kafuta, omar b, sistergambia....
Kafuta, I am not that cheap and petty. You feel how hard I hit you with my message and you feel intimidated and paranoid by that. I see all you loosers fear my message. Superb! BTW, I have a very productive life and have better things to do. I am not glued to the keyboard and am not suffering from jealousy and hatred.
On an other note, you are tasting your own medicine, spreading lies against other people and character assasination. Ku jamba sa dahaar naanko - reap what you sow.
